Stuck in IVR Processing for 6 weeks - ESD hasn't touched my claim
I filed my initial claim 6 weeks ago and I'm STILL showing 'IVR Processing' on my account. What the heck does that even mean?? Every time I call, I get the 'high call volume' message and get disconnected. I've sent 4 messages through eServices but haven't heard anything back. My savings are nearly gone and rent is due next week. Anyone else stuck in this IVR limbo? Does it usually take this long? I've applied for 19 jobs in the past month and had 2 interviews but no offers yet. Starting to panic!

IVR stands for Interactive Voice Response - it basically means your claim is still in their automated phone system queue waiting to be processed. I was stuck there for about 4 weeks earlier this year. What finally worked for me was using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual ESD agent. They have this system that basically waits on hold for you and calls you back when an agent is available. Saved me hours of redial hell. They have a demo video too: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked - agent cleared my IVR status in like 5 minutes once I got through.

•I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. How long did it take for them to get you through? Did they need any weird personal info?

IVR processing usually means there's some kind of issue with your identity verification or a potential eligibility question that wasn't automatically resolved. Six weeks is definitely excessive - the system should have moved you to adjudication or approval by now. I'd recommend trying to call right when they open at 8am. Also, check if you've missed any correspondence in your eServices account that might be requesting additional documents or information. Sometimes they send requests that don't trigger email notifications.

•I've checked my Notices/Letters tab like 10 times and there's nothing there asking for anything! I tried the 8am call thing twice last week and still got the 'high volume' message and disconnected. It's like they don't want anyone to actually get benefits.

The "IVR Processing" status is honestly one of the most frustrating stages of the unemployment process. I was stuck there for 3 weeks in January. What worked for me was contacting my state representative's office. I filled out their constituent services form explaining my situation and they contacted ESD on my behalf. Had my claim moving again within 5 days after that. Worth trying if you're desperate - they have staff specifically for helping with ESD issues.

•That's a smart idea - I didn't even think about contacting my rep! Do I just google my state representative and email them? I'll try anything at this point.

•Yes, just google "[your county] state representative" and you should find your district's rep. Most have a "Contact" or "Constituent Services" page with either a form or email address. Be sure to include your full name, contact info, ESD claim ID, and a brief summary of your situation. Be polite but make it clear you're facing financial hardship due to the delay.

IVR processing is total BS tbh. They leave u there to save money. Every week ur waiting is money they don't have to pay. I had to call 73 times in ONE DAY before getting through last month. When I finally got through they said there was a "note on my account" that needed to be removed. Took the lady literally 2 minutes to fix. System is broken on purpose!!

•While delays are definitely frustrating, I want to clarify that IVR Processing isn't a deliberate delay tactic. ESD is required by law to pay all eligible claims, including retroactive payments. The real issue is their outdated computer system and staffing shortages. What often happens is claims with any potential issues get flagged for manual review, creating a backlog. Always make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims while waiting - you'll get paid for all eligible weeks once your claim is processed.

•lol ok whatever u say. weird how these "staffing shortages" always happen at unemployment but never at the IRS when they want money FROM you. 🙄

Just checking - did you verify your identity through ID.me? My claim was stuck in processing for a while and it turned out I hadn't completed the ID verification. Once I did that it moved pretty quick.

•Yes, I did the ID.me thing the same day I applied! Got the green checkmark and everything. That's what's so frustrating - I've done everything they asked and still nothing is happening.

To answer your earlier question - when I used Claimyr it took about 2 hours for them to get me through to an agent (way better than the days I spent trying myself). They just need your phone number to call you back when they reach an agent. No weird personal stuff. The ESD agent will verify your identity when you actually talk to them.

UPDATE: Finally got through! The Claimyr thing actually worked after about 90 minutes of waiting. ESD agent told me my claim had been flagged because I worked for two different employers in my base year and one of them hadn't responded to their wage verification request. She manually overrode something and said my claim should move to processing in 24-48 hours. So relieved!

•That's great news! Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims while you wait for that processing to complete. You should get all your back weeks paid once it's approved.

•Yes, I've been religiously filing every week! Agent said I did everything right and should see payment for all weeks once it processes. Such a relief!
