Monetary determination letter received but will ESD payments start immediately or face adjudication?

I finally got my monetary determination letter today after filing my initial claim 2 weeks ago! The letter shows I'm eligible for $684/week which is a relief. But I'm confused about what happens next - do I automatically start getting paid once I submit my weekly claims now that I have this letter? Or is there still a chance my claim could get sent to adjudication for some reason? I've been filing my weekly claims as required, but so far haven't received any payments. My coworker said she got paid right away after her monetary determination, but I've read horror stories about people waiting months in adjudication. Anyone know what the normal process is supposed to be? I've got rent due next week and really need to know if I can count on this money or not.

Unfortunately, the monetary determination letter only means they've calculated how much you qualify for IF you're approved. It doesn't mean you'll get paid right away. Your claim could still be flagged for adjudication for various reasons - separation issues, availability questions, identity verification, etc. ESD reviews every claim and if they find anything that needs investigation, they'll put it in adjudication. If everything is straightforward (like a simple layoff with no disputes), you might get paid within a week or two of filing your weekly claims. But there's no guarantee - I've seen perfectly normal claims randomly get flagged.

Oh no...that's not what I was hoping to hear. Do they at least tell you if your claim is going into adjudication? I haven't gotten any notifications about problems with my claim, but I also haven't gotten any money. Is there a way to check if I'm in adjudication?

3 months?! That's terrifying. Did they tell him why or was it just silence the whole time?

The monetary determination is just one step in the process. Your claim can still be put into adjudication for many reasons, including: 1. Questions about why you left your job 2. Identity verification issues 3. Work availability concerns 4. Employer disputes your claim 5. Missing or conflicting information You can check your claim status in your eServices account. If it says "pending" or "adjudication in progress," that means there's an issue being resolved. If it just says "processing" that's normal at this stage. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even if you're not getting paid yet! If your claim is approved, you'll get backpay for all weeks properly claimed.

Thank you! I just checked my eServices and it says "pending issue" under the status. Guess that means I'm in for a wait. I'll keep filing my weeklies though.

I HATE how ESD just leaves people hanging! The monetary determination letter gets your hopes up and then NOTHING! When I filed last year, I got my letter showing I qualified for $745/week, but then RADIO SILENCE for 6 WEEKS!! No explanation, no timeline, nothing! Then one day all the money just appeared in my account. The whole time my claim was supposedly "under review" but nobody could tell me what they were reviewing or how long it would take!! The system is BROKEN!!

Have you tried calling ESD to ask about your status? Sometimes there's a minor issue they need to clear up but they never tell you about it unless you call. I was stuck for weeks until I finally got through to someone who fixed my claim in like 5 minutes!

I've tried calling a few times but keep getting the "high call volume" message and it hangs up. Is there a better time of day to call or some trick to getting through?

I was in the exact same situation last month! Got my monetary determination showing $712/week, but then nothing happened after I filed my weekly claims. I tried calling ESD about 50 times with no luck - always got disconnected because of "high call volume." Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 45 minutes. Turns out my claim had a simple identity verification flag that needed to be cleared. The agent fixed it while I was on the phone and my payments started the next week. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Don't wait weeks in the dark like I did - it's worth getting an actual answer about your specific claim status.

Thanks, I'll check that out! I'm getting desperate to talk to someone since my eServices shows a "pending issue" but doesn't explain what the issue is. Need to find out if it's something simple or if I'm going to be waiting months.

One more thing to consider - even if your claim isn't in full adjudication, there might be a mandatory waiting week. In Washington, the first week you're eligible is usually a waiting week where you don't get paid. But you still need to file a claim for that week! This is separate from adjudication issues.

The waiting week is such GARBAGE! When people need money most, right after losing their job, the state makes them wait an extra week for NO REASON! Meanwhile bills don't have a "waiting week" do they??!! 🤬

Update on your "pending issue" status - that definitely means something is flagged in your claim that needs resolution. It could be anything from identity verification to employer response issues. Unfortunately, these can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks to resolve, depending on the complexity and current ESD workload. Your best option is to speak directly with an ESD representative to find out what specifically is causing the pending issue and if there's anything you can do to help resolve it faster. Keep filing those weekly claims in the meantime!

Thanks everyone for the help! I managed to get through to ESD this morning using that call service. Turns out my former employer is disputing that I was laid off (they're claiming I quit). Now I have to wait for an adjudicator to contact me for my side of the story. At least now I know what's happening and can prepare. I'll keep filing my weekly claims and hope this gets resolved soon.
