How to address unemployment claim issues with Washington ESD - need guidance
I'm completely lost on how to address unemployment issues with Washington ESD. My claim has been stuck in adjudication for weeks and I can't get anyone on the phone. Every time I call the main number I get disconnected after waiting for hours. I've tried the online messaging system but no response. I don't know if I'm supposed to keep filing weekly claims or if there's something else I need to do. Has anyone figured out the best way to actually get help when you're dealing with claim problems? I'm behind on rent and really need to get this sorted out.

The key is knowing which number to call and when. The main customer service line (833-572-8400) is almost impossible to get through, but there are specific times that work better. Also make sure you're still filing your weekly claims even during adjudication - if you stop filing you'll lose benefits for those weeks.

•I've been filing weekly but wasn't sure if I should continue. What times work best for calling?

•Usually right when they open at 8am or during lunch hour around 12-1pm. But honestly even then it's hit or miss.

been there! adjudication is the worst part of the whole process. they're basically investigating something about your claim to make sure you qualify. could be anything from your work history to how you left your last job.

•Do you know how long it usually takes? I'm going on 4 weeks now.

•mine took 6 weeks last year. some people get it resolved in 2-3 weeks, others wait months. there's no consistency.

I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I was having similar issues. They basically call for you and get you connected to an actual agent. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me weeks of frustration trying to call myself.

•Is that legit? I'm desperate at this point but don't want to get scammed.

•Yeah it's real. They don't ask for any personal info, just your phone number so they can call you back when they get an agent on the line. I was skeptical too but it actually worked.

•How much does something like that cost? I'm already broke from not getting my benefits.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've been dealing with Washington ESD for 2 months and it's a nightmare. They put people in adjudication and then just forget about them. Meanwhile we can't pay our bills or feed our families. It's completely unacceptable that taxpayers fund this agency and they can't even answer their phones.

•I feel your pain but getting angry won't solve the problem. The system is overwhelmed but there are still ways to get help.

•Easy for you to say if you're not the one about to get evicted because Washington ESD can't do their job properly.

Here's what worked for me when I was in adjudication: I sent a detailed message through the secure messaging system explaining my entire situation and asking specifically what documentation they needed. Even though they don't usually respond quickly, putting everything in writing creates a paper trail. Also upload any documents you think might be relevant to your case.

•What kind of documents should I upload? I'm not even sure what they're investigating.

•Pay stubs from your last job, your separation notice if you have one, any communication with your employer about why you left. Basically anything that shows your work history and reason for unemployment.

same boat here... claim pending for 3 weeks now and no idea what's happening. this is so stressful

•At least I'm not alone in this mess. Are you still filing weekly claims?

•yeah still filing every week. someone told me you have to keep doing it or you lose those weeks permanently

One thing people don't realize is that adjudication can be triggered by simple things like a discrepancy in your reported wages or if your employer contests your claim. Washington ESD has to investigate before they can approve benefits. The process is slow but there's usually a reason for it.

•How would I know if my employer contested it? Nobody told me that was even a possibility.

Harper Hill
•They should send you a notice if there's an employer contest, but sometimes those get lost in the mail or take forever to arrive. That's why calling is so important - they can tell you exactly what's holding up your claim.

Try calling the WorkSourceWA offices in your area. Sometimes they can help with unemployment issues or at least give you better information about what's happening with your claim. They're not as overwhelmed as the main Washington ESD lines.

•I didn't know WorkSourceWA could help with this. Do I just call any location?

•Call the one closest to you. They might not be able to fix your adjudication but they can sometimes see more details about your claim status.

honestly the claimyr thing mentioned earlier might be worth trying. i spent literally 40+ hours on hold over 2 weeks trying to get through to someone at washington esd. if there's a service that can skip that nightmare it's probably worth whatever it costs

•40 hours?? That's insane. How is that even legal for a government agency?

Caden Nguyen
•right? and half the time you get disconnected after waiting for hours. the system is completely broken

Make sure you document everything - dates you called, how long you waited, what you were told. If you end up having to appeal anything later, having detailed records will help your case. I learned this the hard way.

•Good point. I should have been keeping track from the beginning.

Noah Torres
•Start now. Even if you don't need it for an appeal, it helps when you're talking to different agents who ask about your previous contacts with Washington ESD.

I had a similar situation last year where my claim was stuck in adjudication for 2 months. Turned out my previous employer had reported incorrect wage information and Washington ESD had to verify everything. Once they sorted it out, I got all my back pay. The waiting is horrible but most claims do get resolved eventually.

Lucas Adams
•Did you get the back pay for all the weeks you were waiting?
0 coins
Samantha Hall
•Yes, as long as you keep filing your weekly claims during adjudication, you'll get paid for all those weeks once it's approved. That's why it's so important to keep filing even when nothing seems to be happening.

The adjudication process exists for a reason - to prevent fraud and make sure benefits go to people who actually qualify. I know it's frustrating but Washington ESD has to be thorough. The system would be even more broken if they just approved everyone without checking.

Ashley Adams
•That's fine in theory but when people are losing their homes while waiting for Washington ESD to do basic checks, the system is still broken.

•I agree the timeline is a problem, but rushing through adjudications would create bigger issues. The solution is better staffing and resources, not skipping the verification process.

Check your online account regularly. Sometimes updates appear there before you get any phone calls or letters. Also make sure your contact information is current in case they're trying to reach you.

Lucas Adams
•I check it daily but it just says 'adjudication in progress' with no other details.

Sophia Clark
•That's typical. The online system doesn't show much detail about what specific issue they're investigating. You really need to talk to someone to get that information.

I used Claimyr too when I couldn't get through to Washington ESD about my disqualification. They got me connected to an agent in about 30 minutes and I was able to get the information I needed to file my appeal. Definitely worth checking out if you're stuck.

Lucas Adams
•How does it work exactly? Do they just keep calling until they get through?
0 coins
Katherine Harris
•They use some kind of automated system to get past the busy signals and hold times. When they get an agent, they call you and connect you. Pretty simple but way more effective than trying to call yourself.

Whatever you do, don't stop filing your weekly claims. I made that mistake thinking there was no point since my claim was in adjudication. Lost 6 weeks of benefits because of it. Even if you're not getting paid, you have to keep filing to claim those weeks later.

Lucas Adams
•That's terrifying. I'm glad I've been continuing to file but it feels pointless when nothing is happening.
0 coins
Madison Allen
•I know it feels pointless but those weekly claims are basically holding your place in line for those benefit weeks. If you don't file, you can't get paid for that week even after your claim is approved.

been dealing with washington esd for years and the phone situation has gotten worse every year. used to be you could get through eventually but now it's nearly impossible. really makes you wonder what we're paying taxes for

•The pandemic broke their system and they never fully recovered. Too many claims, not enough staff, outdated technology.

•that was 3 years ago though. at some point you have to fix the problems instead of just making excuses

If all else fails, you can contact your state representative's office. They sometimes have staff who can help with constituent issues involving state agencies like Washington ESD. It's a long shot but worth trying if you're really stuck.

•I didn't know elected officials could help with this stuff. How would I even find out who represents me?

Emily Parker
•You can look it up on the Washington State Legislature website. Find your district and contact your representative's office. Explain your situation and ask if they can help with your Washington ESD issue.

The waiting is the worst part. I was in adjudication for 7 weeks and it felt like forever. Try to stay positive and keep filing those weekly claims. Most people do eventually get their claims approved and receive all their back pay.

•Thanks for the encouragement. It's hard to stay positive when bills are piling up but I'll keep trying.

•I totally understand. Look into local food banks and assistance programs while you're waiting. There's no shame in getting help when you need it.

Just wanted to update - I tried the Claimyr service someone mentioned and it actually worked! Got connected to a Washington ESD agent in about 45 minutes. Found out my employer had contested my claim but nobody told me. Now I know what I need to do to resolve it. Thanks for the recommendation!

•That's great news! I'm definitely going to try it. What did the agent tell you about the employer contest?
0 coins
Victoria Scott
•They said I need to provide more documentation about why I left my job. The employer claimed I was fired for misconduct but that's not true. At least now I know what I'm fighting and can gather the evidence I need.
