How do I contact Washington ESD unemployment office - phone number keeps hanging up
I've been trying to reach someone at Washington ESD for two weeks now and I'm getting nowhere. The main number just rings and rings, then disconnects. I need to talk to someone about my claim status because it's been sitting in adjudication for over a month. I've tried calling at different times of day but same result. Does anyone know if there's a different number or a better way to actually get through to speak with someone? This is driving me crazy and I really need help with my unemployment claim.

The phone system is completely overwhelmed right now. I've had better luck calling right at 8am when they open, but even then it's hit or miss. You can also try the online messaging system through your SecureAccess Washington account, but don't expect a quick response.

•I tried the messaging system but haven't heard back in over a week. How long did it take them to respond to you?

•About 10 business days for me, and that was just a generic response telling me to keep filing my weekly claims.

ugh same problem here!! been calling for 3 weeks straight and nothing. my claim got denied and i need to appeal but cant even talk to anyone about it. this system is broken

•For appeals you actually need to file the written appeal first, you can't just call about it. The form is on the Washington ESD website under appeals section.

I was having the same issue until someone told me about Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents. I was skeptical at first but tried it last week and actually got connected to someone within 2 hours. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Is that legit? How much does it cost? I'm desperate at this point.

•Yeah it's real. I can't remember the exact cost but it was worth it to finally talk to someone. Way better than spending hours calling and getting nowhere.

•I've heard mixed things about third party services. Did they actually help resolve your issue or just get you on the phone?

•They got me connected to an actual Washington ESD agent who was able to look at my claim and explain what was happening with my adjudication. Saved me weeks of frustration.

The best times to call are Tuesday through Thursday between 8-9am. Avoid Mondays and Fridays completely - everyone tries to call then. Also make sure you're calling the right number: 800-318-6022 for claim questions, not the general inquiry line.

•Thank you! I didn't know there were different numbers. I've been calling the wrong one this whole time.

•That number still doesn't work half the time. The hold music plays for like 30 minutes then just hangs up on you.

•True, but it's still your best bet during those morning hours. The system can only handle so many calls at once.

I spent 6 hours on the phone yesterday trying to get through. SIX HOURS. This is ridiculous. How are people supposed to survive when you can't even talk to someone about your benefits?

•I feel your pain. The staffing shortage is real and they're still dealing with the backlog from the past few years.

•That's not an excuse for having a completely broken phone system. Other states figured this out.

Have you tried contacting your state representative? Sometimes they can help expedite things or at least get you connected to the right person at Washington ESD.

•I didn't think of that. Do they actually help with unemployment issues?

•Yes, constituent services can sometimes help with state agency issues. Worth a shot if you're really stuck.

•My cousin tried that route and it took 3 weeks just to get a response from the rep's office. Better than nothing though.

The whole system is a joke. I've been unemployed for 2 months and still haven't received a single payment because my claim is stuck somewhere in their system and nobody can tell me why.

•Have you checked your account for any pending issues? Sometimes there are ID verification or job separation issues that need to be resolved.

Sean Kelly
•Yeah I've checked everything a million times. No pending issues showing up anywhere.

•That's exactly the kind of situation where Claimyr helped me. The agent was able to see things in the system that don't show up in my online account.

Try calling right at lunch time too - around 12:30pm. Sometimes the call volume drops a bit then because people are eating lunch.

•Good tip, I'll try that today. Anything is worth a shot at this point.

Does anyone know if the local WorkSource offices can help with Washington ESD claim issues? I have one near me but not sure if they handle that stuff.

Diego Mendoza
•WorkSource can help with some basic questions but they can't access your claim details or make changes. They're more for job search assistance.

•Ah ok, that's what I figured. Thanks for clarifying.

I actually got through last week after trying for a month. The key was calling exactly at 8:00am on a Wednesday. Set multiple alarms and be ready to dial the second they open.

•How long were you on hold once you got through?

•About 20 minutes which wasn't too bad. The agent was really helpful once I finally got someone.

•You got lucky. I tried that same strategy and still got disconnected after 2 hours.

The callback option never works either. I've requested callbacks and never gotten a single one.

•Same here. I think that feature is just broken or they're too backlogged to actually use it.

I hate to say it but I ended up using one of those calling services too. It's frustrating to pay for something that should be free, but I needed to get my claim sorted out. The peace of mind was worth it.

•Which service did you use? Was it the Claimyr one mentioned earlier?

•Yes that's the one. They got me through in about 3 hours which was way better than the weeks I spent trying on my own.

Make sure you have all your information ready before calling - SSN, claim number, employment dates, etc. The agents move fast and don't want to wait while you look stuff up.

•Good point. I should write everything down before I try calling again.

•Yes! And have your last employer's information handy too. They ask about that a lot.

The fact that we're even having this conversation shows how broken the system is. It shouldn't be this hard to get basic help with your unemployment claim.

•Agreed. Other states have figured out how to handle high call volumes without making people wait weeks to talk to someone.

•Exactly. This is supposed to be a safety net, not an obstacle course.

Update: I finally got through this morning using the 8am Wednesday strategy! Took 3 tries but I'm on hold right now. Will update if I actually get to talk to someone.
