How soon does Washington ESD unemployment pay after approval?
Just got approved for unemployment benefits yesterday and I'm wondering how long it takes for Washington ESD to actually send the payment? My claim shows approved but no payment date yet. I've been waiting 2 weeks for adjudication to finish and really need to know when I can expect the money to hit my account. Does anyone know the typical timeline from approval to actual payment?

Usually takes 2-3 business days after your claim shows approved. Make sure you've done your weekly claim filing for the weeks you're claiming benefits for. The payment won't come automatically just because you're approved - you still need to file those weekly claims.

•Oh I didn't realize I had to file weekly claims! I thought approval meant the payments would start automatically. How do I file the weekly claims?

•Log into your Washington ESD account and look for 'Submit Weekly Claim' - you'll need to do this every week to get paid for that week.

It depends on your payment method too. Direct deposit is faster than the debit card they mail you. I got direct deposit and it was in my account 2 days after filing my weekly claim.

•I think I signed up for direct deposit but how can I verify that? Don't want to wait for a debit card if I don't have to.

•Check your payment preferences in your Washington ESD account under account settings. If you see your bank info there you should be good for direct deposit.

Been trying to call Washington ESD for 3 days straight about my payment timeline and can't get through to anyone! The automated system just hangs up on me after being on hold for an hour. This is so frustrating when you need answers about when money is coming.

•I had the same problem last month. Found this service called Claimyr at claimyr.com that actually got me through to a Washington ESD agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call.

•Really? That actually works? I'm desperate at this point, will check it out.

•Can confirm Claimyr works - used it when I needed to talk to someone about my adjudication delay. Way better than sitting on hold all day.

The payment schedule depends on when you file your weekly claim. If you file Sunday-Tuesday, payment typically processes Wednesday and hits your account Thursday/Friday. If you file later in the week, you might not see payment until the following week.

•Good to know about the timing! I'll make sure to file early in the week going forward.

•Wait, so if I file my weekly claim on Saturday I have to wait until the next week for payment? That seems crazy.

Marcus Patterson
•That's correct - Washington ESD processes payments in batches early in the week. Filing later means waiting for the next processing cycle.

make sure you dont have any issues flagged on your account that could delay payment. i had a job search requirement flag that held up my payment for a week even after approval

•How do I check for flags? My account just shows approved but maybe there's something I'm missing.

•look for any messages or alerts in your account dashboard. also check if theres anything under 'issues' or 'to do' items

First payment can take longer than regular payments because they're calculating your benefit amount and back pay. I waited 5 days for my first payment but after that it was always 2-3 days.

•That makes sense since they'd have to calculate everything from scratch. Thanks for the heads up about the first payment taking longer.

•Same here, first payment took almost a week but then it was regular after that. Just be patient with the first one.

WASHINGTON ESD IS SO SLOW WITH EVERYTHING! I've been waiting 3 weeks just to get my first payment and they keep saying 'processing.' This system is broken and they don't care about people who need money to survive!

•I feel your frustration but 3 weeks seems excessive. Have you tried calling to see if there's an issue with your claim?

•TRIED CALLING HUNDREDS OF TIMES! Nobody ever answers or they hang up after hours on hold.

•This is exactly why I recommend Claimyr - it's specifically designed to get through Washington ESD's phone system when you can't reach them normally.

Pro tip: set up text alerts in your Washington ESD account so you get notified when your payment is processed. Saves you from constantly checking your bank account.

•Didn't know they had text alerts! I'll set that up right now, thanks.

•The text alerts are helpful but sometimes they're delayed. I usually get the text after I already see the deposit in my account lol

Mine took exactly 72 hours from when I filed my weekly claim to when the money showed up via direct deposit. This was for a regular weekly claim though, not the first payment after approval.

Oliver Alexander
•That's pretty consistent with what others are saying. Hoping mine comes through that quickly once I file my weekly claim.

Just want to mention that if you're on standby status your payment timing might be different. I was on standby for my union job and the payments came faster because there's less verification needed.

Oliver Alexander
•I'm not on standby, just regular unemployment. But good to know for others who might be reading this.

•Standby is nice when you qualify for it. Way less hassle with job search requirements too.

Check that your bank doesn't have any holds on ACH deposits too. My credit union used to hold unemployment payments for 24 hours which added to the delay.

•Good point, I'll call my bank to make sure they don't have any policies that would delay unemployment deposits.

•Some banks flag government payments as suspicious if you haven't received them before. Worth checking with them.

honestly the waiting is the worst part of unemployment. even when everything goes smooth ur still sitting there refreshing ur bank account every hour waiting for the money to hit

•For real, the stress of not knowing when money is coming makes everything worse. At least once you get into the routine you know what to expect.

Oliver Alexander
•Yeah I'm definitely feeling that stress right now! Hopefully it gets easier once I understand the timing better.

One thing that helped me was keeping track of exactly when I filed my weekly claims and when payments came through. After a few weeks I could predict almost exactly when money would hit my account.

•That's smart, I'll start keeping a log. Probably help with budgeting too if I know exactly when to expect payments.

•I did the same thing! Made a simple spreadsheet with file date, payment date, and amount. Really helpful for planning.

Washington ESD actually has pretty detailed payment schedules on their website if you dig around for them. Shows exactly which days they process payments and when they get sent to banks.

Oliver Alexander
•I'll look for that on their website. Would be nice to have the official schedule instead of just guessing.

•The payment schedule is under the 'Payment Information' section if I remember correctly. Very helpful for planning.

Anyone else notice that holiday weeks mess up the payment timing? MLK day delayed my payment by an extra day because banks were closed.
0 coins
Oliver Alexander
•That's something I wouldn't have thought of. Good to keep in mind for future holiday weeks.

•Yeah bank holidays always throw off the timing. Washington ESD still processes but banks don't transfer until they're open.

Just got my first payment today after approval last Thursday! Took exactly 4 business days from approval to money in account with direct deposit. Filed my weekly claim Sunday night and money showed up Thursday morning.

Oliver Alexander
•Awesome, that gives me a good timeline to expect! Congrats on getting your first payment.

•4 days is pretty typical for first payments. Should be faster going forward now that you're in the system.

Word of advice - double check that your weekly claim actually submitted successfully. I thought I filed mine but it didn't go through and I missed a week of payments because of it.
0 coins
Oliver Alexander
•How can you tell if it went through? Is there a confirmation page or email?
0 coins
Ruby Knight
•You should get a confirmation number when you submit. Also check your claim history to make sure the week shows up as filed.

Diego Castillo
•I always screenshot the confirmation page just in case there's ever a dispute about whether I filed or not.

If you need to talk to someone about payment timing or issues, I had success using Claimyr to get through to Washington ESD. Way better than trying to call directly and sitting on hold forever.

•You'll be fine - just remember to file your weekly claims on time and the payments will come like clockwork.

One last tip - if your payment seems late, check Washington ESD's website for any system maintenance announcements. Sometimes they delay processing for system updates and post about it.

Oliver Alexander
•Good to know! I'll bookmark their announcements page in case I ever wonder why a payment is delayed.
