How often do you get unemployment checks from Washington ESD?
I just got approved for UI benefits and I'm trying to figure out the payment schedule. How often do you actually get unemployment checks from Washington ESD? Is it weekly or bi-weekly? And when do they usually hit your account after you file your weekly claim? I'm trying to budget and plan my bills around when the money will come in.

You get paid weekly if you file your weekly claim on time. Usually hits your account 2-3 business days after you submit your claim, but can take longer if there are any issues with your claim.

•Thanks! So I need to file every week to get paid every week? What happens if I miss filing one week?

•Yes you have to file every single week. If you miss a week you can usually file late but there might be delays or you could lose that week's payment depending on why you missed it.

It's weekly payments but the timing can be unpredictable. I've been getting mine on Tuesdays usually but sometimes it's Wednesday. The key is filing your weekly claim every Sunday after midnight - that's when the system opens up for the new week.

•Nope, Sunday after midnight. A lot of people don't know that and end up filing late.

Been on unemployment for 6 months now and the payments come weekly as long as you do everything right. But here's the thing - if you have ANY issues with your claim status or job search requirements, payments can get held up for weeks. I had one payment delayed for 3 weeks because of some adjudication issue.

•What kind of adjudication issue? I'm worried about running into problems.

•They questioned my job separation circumstances. Had to provide additional documentation and it took forever to resolve. Couldn't get through to anyone at Washington ESD to check on the status.

•That's exactly what happened to me! I ended up using this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual agent. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Finally got my adjudication issue resolved after weeks of trying on my own.

The weekly thing is misleading though because you're actually getting paid for the PREVIOUS week. So there's always like a 1-2 week delay from when you're actually unemployed to when you get paid for that time.

•yeah that confused me at first too. you file for last week not this week

•So if I file my first weekly claim this Sunday, when would I actually get paid?

•Usually Tuesday or Wednesday of that same week, but you're getting paid for the week before. The first payment might take longer because they have to process everything initially.

ive been getting mine every tuesday for like 4 months now. pretty consistent once you get in the routine. just make sure you do your job search stuff or they'll stop payments

•How many job applications do you have to do per week?

•3 per week minimum but you gotta log them in WorkSourceWA or whatever. pain in the butt but necessary

Just remember that missing even one weekly claim filing can mess up your whole payment schedule. And if you're on standby status the rules are different - you still get weekly payments but you don't have to do job searches.

•What's standby status? I've never heard of that.

•It's when you're temporarily laid off but expect to return to the same employer within a specific timeframe. Different rules apply for job search requirements.

been doing this for 3 months and its always tuesday or wednesday. never had a problem as long as i file on time and do my job searches. the worst part is just waiting for that first payment when you start

The Washington ESD system is pretty reliable for payments once you're in the system. The issue is usually getting approved initially or dealing with any claim problems. I've seen people wait months for adjudication to finish.

•Months?? That's insane. How do people survive waiting that long?

•Most people don't have a choice. The system is overwhelmed and understaffed. That's why services like Claimyr have become popular - helps people actually reach Washington ESD agents when they need to resolve issues.

I get paid every Tuesday like clockwork but I'm paranoid about missing my weekly filing. Set like 3 alarms every Sunday to remind myself.

•lol same here. the anxiety is real

•Is there a deadline for filing the weekly claim or just as long as it's that week?

•You have until Saturday night technically but don't risk it. File as early as possible on Sunday.

Weekly payments are the standard but they can get interrupted for so many reasons. Job search violations, earnings reporting issues, identity verification problems, you name it. Always have a backup plan financially.

•What kind of backup plan do you mean?

•Emergency fund if possible, or at least know what resources are available if your payments get delayed. Food banks, utility assistance programs, that kind of thing.

The timing is pretty predictable once you figure out the pattern. File Sunday, get paid Tuesday/Wednesday. Just don't make any mistakes on your weekly claim form because corrections can delay everything.

•Reporting earnings wrong, saying you weren't available for work when you were, not reporting job refusals. Anything that triggers a review.

I've been getting weekly payments for 8 months now. The key is treating it like a job - file every Sunday, do your job searches, keep records of everything. Don't give Washington ESD any reason to question your claim.

LunarLegend
•Do you keep physical records or just digital ones?

Aisha Mahmood
•Both. Screenshot everything and keep a paper folder too. You never know when you'll need to prove something.

For anyone struggling to reach Washington ESD about payment delays or other issues, I had success with Claimyr after trying to call for weeks on my own. They helped me get through when I had an overpayment question that was holding up my benefits.

•How does that work exactly?

•They basically handle the calling process for you and get you connected to an actual agent. Way better than sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected.

The weekly schedule is nice once you get used to it but man those first few weeks waiting for everything to process are stressful. Hang in there OP, it gets more predictable.

•Thanks everyone, this is really helpful. Sounds like Sunday filing and Tuesday/Wednesday payments is the normal pattern.

•Yeah just stick to the routine and you'll be fine. And keep records of everything just in case.
