How long does it take to get unemployment check from Washington ESD?
I just filed my first weekly claim last Sunday and I'm wondering how long it usually takes to actually receive the unemployment payment? My claim was approved about 2 weeks ago after adjudication but this is my first time filing the weekly claim. Does Washington ESD pay out the same week you file or is there a delay? I need to plan my bills and rent payment so any info would be helpful.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim for the money to hit your account. Washington ESD processes payments pretty quickly once your claim is approved. Make sure you filed before the Sunday deadline.

•Thanks! I filed it Sunday morning so should be good. Do they send any notification when the payment is processed?

•You'll see it in your online account first, then get the payment. Check your SecureAccess Washington portal.

Usually takes about 2-3 weeks after your claim is approved to get the first payment. You have to file your weekly claims during that time too or you won't get paid for those weeks.

•Thanks! I've been doing my weekly claims religiously. Just wasn't sure about the timeline.

•Make sure you're checking your payment history on the Washington ESD website to see if there are any issues with your weekly claims.

depends on if you have direct deposit set up or getting the debit card. Direct deposit is faster - usually Tuesday or Wednesday if you file Sunday. The debit card can take an extra day or two

•I have direct deposit so that's good news. Fingers crossed for Wednesday!

If you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD to check on payment status, I recently discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Saved me hours of calling.

•How much does that cost? I'm already strapped for cash waiting for my first payment.

•It's worth checking out their site for details. For me it was better than spending entire days trying to get through the phone lines.

•I've heard of services like this but never tried one. Does it actually work or is it just another scam?

•It's legit - they don't ask for your personal info, just help you get connected to Washington ESD. Worked for me when I needed to resolve an adjudication issue.

MAKE SURE YOU FILED YOUR JOB SEARCH ACTIVITIES! I got my first payment delayed because I forgot to log my job searches properly. Washington ESD is strict about that now.
0 coins
Zoe Papanikolaou
•Oh no! I did log my job searches but now I'm worried I did it wrong. How many do you need per week?
0 coins
NebulaNinja
•Three job search activities per week minimum. Has to be actual applications or interviews, not just browsing job sites.

•The job search requirements are confusing. Some people say networking events count, others say they don't. Washington ESD needs to be clearer about this.

Been getting UI for 2 months now and it's always Tuesday or Wednesday for me with direct deposit. Pretty consistent timing from Washington ESD.

Zoe Papanikolaou
•That's reassuring! Do you file Sunday nights or Monday mornings?

•Sunday evenings usually. I set a reminder so I don't forget.

Mine took forever because it went into adjudication. If yours shows approved you should be getting paid soon though.
0 coins
Victoria Jones
•What does adjudication mean exactly? My status just says approved so I think I'm good.

Isaiah Thompson
•Adjudication is when they review your claim for eligibility issues. Since yours is approved you should be fine.

I had the same issue trying to get info from Washington ESD about payment timing. Couldn't get through on the phone for weeks. Finally found this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to an agent in like 10 minutes. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Totally worth it when you need answers fast.

•Interesting, never heard of that. How much does it cost?

•It's reasonable for what you get - way better than spending hours on hold. The main thing is it actually works to get you through to someone who can check your payment status.

•I've used Claimyr too and it's legit. Got connected to Washington ESD right away when I couldn't get through myself.

First payment is usually the longest wait because they have to process everything. After that weekly payments come pretty regularly if you keep filing your claims on time.

•Good to know. I was worried something was wrong since it's been 2 weeks already.

•Two weeks is normal. I think mine was exactly 16 days from approval to first payment hitting my bank account.

The Washington ESD system is so slow compared to other states. My cousin in Oregon gets paid the next day after filing. Here it's like waiting for Christmas every week.

Sofia Morales
•At least it's predictable though. Some states have way more issues with their systems.

•True, I guess I should be grateful it works at all after hearing some horror stories from other places.

WASHINGTON ESD IS SO SLOW WITH EVERYTHING!!! I waited 3 weeks for my first check even though my claim was approved immediately. Their whole system is a mess.

Isaac Wright
•I feel your pain but 3 weeks isn't that unusual unfortunately. The system is definitely overwhelmed.

•Still ridiculous when people need money for rent and food. They should have better systems in place.

If your payment is late definitely call Washington ESD. Sometimes there are issues they don't tell you about in your online account.

•Good luck getting through to them on the phone! I've been trying for weeks to ask about my adjudication.

•That's exactly why I used Claimyr - the regular phone lines are impossible. Got through in minutes instead of spending days trying.

make sure your bank info is correct in your account. I had the wrong routing number for like 3 weeks and kept wondering why no payments. felt so stupid when i figured it out lol

The waiting is the worst part. I remember my first week being so anxious about whether everything went through correctly. Now it's just routine.
0 coins
Zoe Papanikolaou
•Yeah I'm definitely anxious! Did you have any issues with your first payment?

•Nope, went smooth. As long as you filed everything correctly and your claim is approved, should be fine.

Make sure you set up direct deposit if you haven't already. That speeds up getting your payments compared to waiting for a check in the mail.
0 coins
Victoria Jones
•Already did that during the application process. Banking info is all set up.

Connor Murphy
•Direct deposit usually takes 1-2 business days once Washington ESD processes the payment. Much faster than mail.

Pro tip: you can check your payment status online through your Washington ESD account. Look for the payment history section to see if anything has been processed yet.
0 coins
Victoria Jones
•I check that obsessively lol. Still shows no payments issued but my weekly claims are all there.

Kaiya Rivera
•That's normal until they process the first batch. Once it starts you'll see payments show up there before they hit your bank.

Washington ESD payments usually process overnight Monday into Tuesday, then hit accounts Tuesday/Wednesday depending on your bank. Pretty standard schedule.
0 coins
Connor O'Neill
•Is there any way to track the payment status while it's processing?
0 coins
Zainab Ismail
•Your online account will show payment issued before it hits your bank account, but there's not really real-time tracking.

Usually 2-3 weeks is standard but can be longer if there are any issues with your claim or if they need additional documentation.

Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the first payment. You don't want to miss any weeks.

Don't stress too much about it. The system works, just takes a couple days. Use the time to keep job searching since that's required anyway.
0 coins
Zoe Papanikolaou
•Good point! I should focus on applications instead of refreshing my bank account.

In my experience with Washington ESD, first payment took about 18 days from approval. After that payments came every Tuesday like clockwork.

The waiting is brutal but once it starts coming it's pretty reliable. Washington ESD just takes forever to get the first one processed.

If you really need to talk to someone at Washington ESD about your payment status, definitely try that Claimyr service. Regular phone calls are basically impossible to get through.
0 coins
Victoria Jones
•Yeah I tried calling a few times and just got busy signals or hung up on. Will definitely consider Claimyr if needed.

If you're on standby status the timing might be different. Are you regular UI or standby through your employer?
0 coins
Zoe Papanikolaou
•Regular UI, I was laid off permanently. What's the difference with standby?

•Standby is for temporary layoffs where you expect to return to the same job. Different requirements and sometimes different payment timing.

Pro tip: set up text alerts from your bank so you know immediately when the deposit hits. Saves you from constantly checking your balance.

Remember that holidays can delay payments too. If there's a federal holiday on Monday or Tuesday, everything shifts back a day.

Javier Torres
•Good point! Martin Luther King Day is coming up next month so that could affect timing.

Natasha Volkova
•Exactly. Washington ESD follows federal holiday schedules for processing.

The amount should match what your weekly benefit amount shows in your account. Mine is $487 per week and that's exactly what I get deposited.
0 coins
Zoe Papanikolaou
•Mine shows $445 so I'll look for that amount. Does that include taxes taken out?
0 coins
Emma Davis
•That's before taxes. You can elect to have federal and state taxes withheld if you want, but it's optional.

If something goes wrong with your first payment, don't panic. I had an issue where my payment got held up because of a random eligibility review. Took an extra week but got resolved.
0 coins
Zoe Papanikolaou
•How did you find out about the hold? Did they notify you or did you have to call?
0 coins
Malik Johnson
•It showed up in my online account under correspondence. That's another reason to check your account regularly.

•When I had payment issues I used Claimyr to get through to someone quickly instead of waiting for correspondence. Sometimes talking to an agent is faster than waiting for the system to update.

Just remember that once you start getting payments, you need to keep filing every week even if you find work. You have to report any earnings or they'll consider it an overpayment later.
