How long after unemployment interview do you get paid Washington ESD?
Had my phone interview with Washington ESD last Tuesday about my separation from work. The adjudicator said they'd make a decision within 10 business days but didn't give me any idea about when I'd actually get paid if approved. My claim has been pending for almost 6 weeks now and I'm getting desperate. Anyone know how long it typically takes to get your first payment after the interview? I've been filing my weekly claims the whole time but nothing shows up in my account.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after they update your claim status from pending to approved. The interview decision comes first, then if approved they process all your back weeks at once. You should see a lump sum for all the weeks you've been filing.

•That's what I was hoping! So I should get paid for all 6 weeks I've been waiting?

•Yes, as long as you kept filing your weekly claims during the adjudication period. Don't stop filing even when it says pending.

I went through this same thing in October. My interview was on a Thursday and I got the approval email the following Wednesday. First payment hit my account that Friday. But every case is different depending on the complexity.

•What was your interview about if you don't mind me asking? Mine was about whether I quit or was fired.

•Similar situation - they needed to determine if my leaving was voluntary or involuntary. Took them about a week to decide in my favor.

This is so frustrating! I had my interview 3 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything. Every time I try calling Washington ESD I either get hung up on or wait on hold for 2+ hours just to get disconnected. How are people supposed to get updates?

•I was having the same problem until I found this service called Claimyr at claimyr.com. They actually got me through to a real person at Washington ESD in like 15 minutes. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•I've been trying to call for weeks too. The system is completely overloaded still.

In my experience the 10 business days is usually accurate for the decision, but payment processing can take additional time. Don't panic if you don't see money immediately after getting approved.

•Should I be checking my ESD account daily or will they email me when there's an update?

•You'll get an email notification when the determination is made. But I'd still check your account regularly because sometimes the emails are delayed.

•Appeal hearings are a different process than initial adjudication interviews. Those can take much longer unfortunately.

•everything takes forever with them. no wonder people give up and just find other work

Just want to add that you need to make sure you're continuing to do your job search activities even during adjudication. They can ask for your job search log at any time and if you haven't been looking you could get disqualified even if the interview goes well.

•Good point! I've been keeping track of my applications in WorkSourceWA. Should I be doing anything else?

•As long as you're meeting the minimum 3 job contacts per week and logging them properly you should be fine. Just don't let that slide during the waiting period.

I had a similar timeline - interview on Tuesday, decision the following Friday, first payment the next Tuesday. The back pay was nice but it was stressful waiting.

•That gives me hope! Did they pay for all the weeks you were waiting?

•Yep, got paid for every week I had filed during the adjudication. Made sure to keep filing even though it felt pointless at the time.

Word of advice - if you haven't heard anything by day 12-14 after your interview, definitely try to contact them. Sometimes files get stuck or lost in the system.

•But how do you actually reach them? The phone system is impossible.

•I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Worked way better than trying to call myself. Got through same day.

The waiting is the worst part. I kept checking my account every few hours like it would magically update. Once you get the approval though the payment comes pretty quick.

•I'm definitely guilty of checking constantly! At least I know I'm not the only one.

•We've all been there. The uncertainty is brutal when you're already stressed about money.

Make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your account. I had a friend whose payment got delayed because his bank account number was wrong.

•Good catch! I should double check that now.

•Yeah it's one of those things you don't think about until it causes a problem. Better to verify now than deal with a delayed payment later.

I'm going through the same thing right now. Had my interview last Friday and the waiting is killing me. Bills don't stop coming just because ESD takes forever to make decisions.

Hunter Hampton
•Exactly! I've had to ask family for help with rent already. This is so stressful.

•Same here. I hate having to borrow money but what choice do we have?

From what I understand, once they make the determination it goes to the payment processing team. That's usually where the 2-3 day delay comes from after approval.

Hunter Hampton
•So the interview decision and payment processing are separate steps?

Jasmine Hernandez
•Right, they have to officially update your claim status first, then it gets queued for payment. It's not automatic even after approval.

Just remember that if they deny your claim after the interview, you have appeal rights. Don't give up if the first decision doesn't go your way.

Hunter Hampton
•I really hope it doesn't come to that. The interview seemed to go well but you never know.

•Stay positive! Most people who do the interview in good faith and provide honest answers get approved.

The whole adjudication process needs to be faster. 6 weeks is way too long for people to wait when they're already struggling financially.

•Agreed. Other states handle this stuff much faster than Washington.

•It's like they don't understand that people need this money to survive while looking for work.

For what it's worth, I think the 10 business day timeline they give is pretty accurate most of the time. It's just hard to be patient when you're worried about money.

•That's reassuring. I'm on day 8 since my interview so hopefully I'll hear something soon.

•Keep checking your email and your ESD account. The notification should come any day now.

I had success using Claimyr too when I needed to check on my adjudication status. The rep was able to give me a better timeline than what I could find online.

•Maybe I should try that service if I don't hear anything by early next week.

•It definitely beats sitting on hold for hours. They know exactly how to navigate the ESD phone system.
