How long after Washington ESD unemployment approval to receive payment?
My unemployment claim finally got approved yesterday after being in adjudication for almost 6 weeks. The status changed from 'pending' to 'paid' on my account, but I haven't received any money yet. How long does it usually take after Washington ESD approval to actually get the payment? I'm really hoping it's not another long wait because I'm behind on everything at this point.

Usually takes 1-2 business days after the status shows 'paid' for the money to hit your account. If you're doing direct deposit it's faster than the debit card option.

•I have direct deposit set up so hopefully tomorrow or Thursday then. Thanks!

•Yeah direct deposit is definitely faster. The debit card can take up to a week sometimes.

Congrats on finally getting approved! 6 weeks is brutal. In my experience the first payment after approval can take up to 3 business days, but after that weekly payments are usually next day if you file Sunday night.

•Good to know about the weekly timing! I was wondering about that too.

•Wait really? My weekly claims always take like 3 days even with direct deposit

•Might depend on your bank. I use a credit union and it's usually Tuesday morning if I file Sunday night.

If you're still having issues getting through to Washington ESD to check on payment timing, I found this service called Claimyr that actually gets you connected to an agent. Way better than sitting on hold for hours. Check out claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Interesting, I'll check that out if the payment doesn't show up by Friday. The calling situation is ridiculous.

•Never heard of that but honestly anything is better than the current phone system. I gave up trying to call months ago.

•Yeah I was skeptical too but it actually worked. Got through in like 20 minutes instead of the usual 4 hour hold times.

OMG 6 weeks?? Mine has been in adjudication for 3 weeks and I thought that was forever. What was the holdup with yours? Did they tell you why it took so long?

Dylan Cooper
•They never gave me a clear reason. I think it was because I had some confusion about my last day worked vs when I actually got laid off. The paperwork was unclear.

•Ugh that's so frustrating. I'm worried mine is stuck for some random reason too and I'll never know what it is.

The payment timing is so inconsistent. Sometimes it's next day, sometimes it's a week. I've never figured out the pattern.

•It really depends on when you file your weekly claim and what day of the week the approval happens. Weekends always add delays.

•Also depends if there are any holidays. Memorial Day weekend delayed mine by like 4 extra days last year.

Just be patient, it will come. After waiting 6 weeks what's a few more days right? At least you know it's approved now.

•Yeah you're right, I'm just anxious because I need to catch up on bills. But the hard part is over.

•I totally get the anxiety. When you're broke every day feels like forever.

Make sure your bank info is correct in your account. I had a friend who waited 2 weeks for payment only to find out his routing number was wrong.

•Good point, I'll double check that right now.

•Yeah definitely verify all your banking details. One wrong digit and it goes nowhere.

•How do you even fix that if it's wrong? Do you have to call them?

I hate how they don't give you any real timeline estimates. Like just tell us 'expect 2-3 business days' or whatever instead of leaving us guessing.

Dmitry Ivanov
•Right? The communication is terrible. Everything is just 'processing' with no actual info.

•The whole system needs an overhaul. It's like they designed it to be as confusing as possible.

Once you get your first payment, make sure to keep filing your weekly claims on time. If you miss a week you have to wait for them to manually process it which can take forever.

•When do I file my next weekly claim? This Sunday?
0 coins
QuantumQuester
•Yes, you should be able to file this Sunday for the week that just ended. Don't skip it even if you haven't gotten paid yet.

•I made that mistake once and it took 3 weeks to sort out. Definitely don't miss the weekly filing deadline.

Has anyone had their payment go to the wrong account? I'm paranoid about that happening.

•That's why I suggested checking the banking info. If the routing/account numbers are right it should go to the right place.

•I've never heard of it going to a completely random account, usually it just bounces back if the info is wrong.

The waiting is the worst part of this whole process. You're already stressed about money and then they make you wait even longer after approval.

•Exactly! Like why can't it be instant in 2025? Everything else is.

•Because it's the government lol. They're still using systems from the 90s probably.

If you need to talk to someone about payment timing or any issues, that Claimyr service mentioned earlier is legit. I used it last month when my payment was delayed and they got me through to an actual person who could explain what was happening.

•Good to know it actually works. I might try it if nothing shows up by end of week.

•Yeah I'm the one who mentioned it earlier. It's honestly a game changer for dealing with Washington ESD phone issues.

Just went through this same thing. My payment showed up 2 days after the status changed to paid. Hang in there!

•Mine was 3 days but it was over a weekend so that probably added time.

Make sure you understand the job search requirements now that you're approved. You need to document 3 job search activities per week to keep getting benefits.
0 coins
Dylan Cooper
•Yeah I saw that in the paperwork. Do applications through Indeed count as search activities?
0 coins
NebulaNomad
•Yes applications count. You can also do things like attend job fairs, networking events, or take online courses. Just keep good records.

•The WorkSourceWA website has good info about what qualifies as job search activities if you're not sure.

Pro tip: sign up for text alerts in your account so you get notified when payments are processed. Saves you from constantly checking the website.

Dylan Cooper
•Oh that's a great idea! I didn't know that was an option. Where do you find that setting?

Diego Rojas
•It should be under account preferences or notification settings. I forget exactly but it's definitely in there somewhere.

The Washington ESD system is so slow compared to other states. My cousin in California gets payments the next day after filing weekly claims.

•Every state's system is different. At least ours works eventually, some states had way worse problems during COVID.

StarSeeker
•True, could be worse. But it's still frustrating when you need the money now.

If you're really strapped for cash while waiting, some food banks don't require proof of income if you explain you're waiting for unemployment benefits to start.

Dylan Cooper
•That's good to know. I've been too embarrassed to look into that but maybe I should.

•Don't be embarrassed, that's exactly what those resources are for. You paid into the system, you deserve help while waiting.

UPDATE US when you get the payment! I'm curious to see if it follows the 1-2 day timeline people are saying.

One more thing - if you end up needing to contact Washington ESD about payment issues or anything else, definitely try that Claimyr thing people mentioned. I was skeptical but it really does work better than trying to call normally.

•Yeah I've seen it mentioned in other threads too. Wish I'd known about it months ago when I was trying to get through to them.
