Governor's office expediting ESD hardship claims - how long is the wait?

Just wanted to thank everyone who suggested contacting the governor's office about expediting my unemployment claim! I've been struggling with severe financial hardship while caring for my epileptic daughter, and regular ESD channels weren't getting me anywhere. I called the governor's constituent services line yesterday and explained our situation. The representative was incredibly compassionate and understanding about our medical and financial circumstances. She told me to keep checking my eServices portal for updates as my case should be expedited soon! I'm only eligible for a modest weekly benefit (not enough for full rent), but it will definitely help contribute toward our housing costs each month. Has anyone else gone through the expedited hardship process? Any idea how long it typically takes after the governor's office recommends expedition? Still nervous about timing since our rent is due next week.

Oh wow that's awesome! I went through this exact process last year when I was facing eviction and had medical bills piling up. After the governor's office got involved, it took about 6 business days for my claim to move from adjudication to paid status. The system doesn't actually tell you it's been expedited though - it just suddenly starts moving faster. Make sure you're still filing your weekly claims on time even while waiting!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know it might be about a week. I'll definitely keep filing my weekly claims on time. Did you have to provide any additional documentation to the governor's office about your hardship situation?

DONT get your hopes up to much!! i tried this route back in january and they SAID the same thing to me but nothing actually happened for 3 MORE WEEKS!!! The governors office doesnt actually have any real power over ESD they just send a email that might get ignored. The whole system is a joke honestly.

Oh no, that's really discouraging to hear. I was feeling so hopeful after talking to them. Did you follow up with the governor's office again after those 3 weeks? I'm wondering if I should have a backup plan if nothing happens in the next few days.

The timeline varies depending on your specific situation and current ESD workload. From what I've seen helping clients, hardship expedites typically take 3-10 business days to process after the governor's office intervention. There are a few things you can do to help move things along:\n\n1. Make sure your identity verification is 100% complete in the system\n2. Check that you've responded to ALL outstanding alerts in your eServices portal\n3. Have documentation ready if they call (medical records, eviction notices, utility shutoff notices)\n4. Continue filing weekly claims without interruption\n\nAlso, if you haven't already, consider reaching out to your local WorkSource office. They sometimes have emergency assistance programs that can help while you're waiting.

Thank you for such detailed information! I've completed the ID verification already and don't see any alerts in my portal, so that's good. I'll definitely gather my documentation and have it ready. I hadn't thought about WorkSource - that's a great suggestion. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Thanks! It's helpful to know other people's timelines, even if they vary. I'm trying to stay positive but also realistic about when the funds might come through.

I had a similar experience with my claim being stuck for months due to an adjudication issue. I was facing eviction and medical bills for my chronic condition. What really worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual ESD agent. I spent weeks trying to call ESD directly with no luck, but Claimyr got me connected to a real person in about 20 minutes. The agent was able to see that my hardship expedition request had actually been approved but was sitting in someone's queue. She processed it on the spot.\n\nYou can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nBetween the governor's office request and being able to talk to an actual agent, my claim was paid 2 days later. Might be worth trying if you don't see movement in your portal soon.

I've never heard of Claimyr before. That's really interesting that it helped you connect with an actual person! I'll check out the video. That's exactly what I need - someone who can see what's happening with my claim in real-time instead of just waiting and hoping. Thank you for the recommendation!

I went through this back in April. After the governor's office submitted my hardship request, I actually got a direct call from an ESD supervisor 5 days later! They had questions about my daughter's medical situation (I also have a child with special needs), and after I explained everything, they processed my payments the next day. Maybe try calling the ESD hardship line directly too? 833-572-8400 is the number I used.

That's so helpful! I didn't know there was a specific ESD hardship line. I'm going to call that number today. It's encouraging to hear they reached out to you directly - and that they processed your payments so quickly after that. Thank you for sharing your experience!

The governors office expedite is hit or miss honestly. Mine took 11 days to clear but my neighbor was still waiting after 3 weeks so he ended up contacting his state representative instead and that actually worked faster! Might be worth trying both approaches if you're really in a bind. Also have you applied for emergency rental assistance through DSHS while you wait?

I hadn't thought about contacting my state representative - that's a good backup plan if this doesn't work out. And no, I haven't applied for emergency rental assistance yet. Is that different from the regular DSHS programs? I'll look into that too. Thanks for the suggestions!

That's amazing news! I'm so glad to hear your claim status is finally moving! It sounds like the governor's office intervention really did work. Please keep us updated on when you actually receive your first payment - I know there are others here who are considering the same route and would love to hear how it all works out. Fingers crossed everything processes smoothly from here! 🤞
