Finally got ESD callback after 3pm - they actually fixed my daughter's claim!
After weeks of trying to get through to ESD, I discovered something that actually worked! Around 3:15pm yesterday, I decided to try the callback option one last time (I'd given up hope honestly). To my complete shock, they actually called back within an hour! The agent was super helpful with my daughter's claim that had been stuck for almost a month. She resolved two major issues on the spot and then transferred us directly to an adjudicator for the third problem. The rep mentioned something interesting - after a certain time in the afternoon, ESD stops taking incoming calls and just focuses on returning callbacks. So requesting a callback later in the day might actually improve your chances! Has anyone else had success with afternoon callbacks? This seems like valuable info for people struggling to get through.

Wait seriously?? I've been calling at 8am sharp every morning for TWO WEEKS and never get through. Always "high call volume" then disconnect. You might be onto something with this afternoon callback thing. What number did you call exactly? I've been using the main claims center number.

•Yes! I used the regular claims center number (833-572-8400). I'd tried mornings too with no luck. The callback yesterday was around 4:10pm, and the lady specifically mentioned they shift to just handling callbacks after a certain point. Maybe they clear the morning backlog in the afternoon? Worth trying!

This is actually correct information. I used to work as a claims specialist (not for ESD but another state agency). Most unemployment offices have a cutoff time for incoming calls (usually 3 or 4pm) so they can process the callback queue before end of day. The system prioritizes people who've been waiting longest, so morning callbacks might sit in queue longer than afternoon ones that get handled same-day. Smart strategy!

•I agree they should make this clearer. The official recommendation to call early is based on having the full day ahead for a callback, but it doesn't account for how the queues actually work in practice. The system isn't perfect, but the afternoon strategy is worth trying when morning attempts fail.

I tried calling after reading this and still got the message about high call volume and to try again later. Guess I'll try again tomorrow afternoon. Been stuck in adjudication for 6 weeks with zero income coming in. This is ridiculous.

If you're still having trouble reaching ESD by phone, you might want to check out Claimyr.com. I was in a similar situation last month and they got me connected to an actual ESD agent within about 20 minutes. They basically navigate the phone system for you and get you in the callback queue faster. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It's especially helpful if you're dealing with adjudication issues that can only be resolved by talking to a representative.

•Just looked into this. Has anyone else actually tried it? Seems too good to be true but I'm desperate at this point.

•I used it about 3 months ago when my claim got stuck in ID verification hell. It worked exactly as advertised - had a callback within 30 minutes. The ESD rep even mentioned they've been seeing a lot of calls come through that service because their own phone system is so broken.

Something similar happened with my claim last year. I had been calling for WEEKS with no luck, then one day around 3:30pm I hit the callback option and got a call back within 45 minutes. The agent told me they prioritize callbacks in order received, but they also have daily quotas they need to meet. So by late afternoon, they're scrambling to hit their callback metrics before end of day. The system is totally broken but knowing how to work within it helps. Btw - for your daughter's claim, what was the third issue they couldn't resolve? Was it related to job search requirements or something else? My son is about to file and I want to make sure he avoids common problems.

•The third issue was related to her previous employer contesting the claim. They mistakenly reported she quit when she was actually laid off (downsizing). That required transfer to an adjudicator who needed to review documentation from both sides. Make sure your son gets something in writing from his employer about the separation reason - would have saved us weeks of stress!

•Thanks for that info! I'll definitely make sure he gets proper documentation. His company is doing layoffs next month so should be straightforward, but clearly nothing is simple with ESD.

none of this matters if u need money NOW. ive been in adjutication for 9 WEEKS already and my landlord is about to evict me. called over 50 times. this system is DESIGNED to make people give up on benefits they DESERVE

•I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. Nine weeks is absolutely ridiculous! Have you tried contacting your state representative? My neighbor had a similar situation and their office was able to escalate it directly with ESD management. Might be worth trying.

I can confirm this afternoon callback strategy works. I spent months trying to get through in the mornings with no luck. Then I tried calling at 3:30pm, got into the callback queue, and received a call back the same day. The representative explained they have staffing dedicated to callbacks in the afternoon. She ended up resolving my adjudication issue on the spot and my payments started processing immediately. One important tip: make sure your phone accepts calls from unknown or blocked numbers. ESD calls often show up as "No Caller ID" and if your phone blocks these, you'll miss their callback.

•That's actually super helpful - I have unknown callers blocked! Changing that setting right now. Thank you!

For anyone still struggling to reach ESD, here's a comprehensive approach that might help: 1. Try the afternoon callback strategy mentioned in this thread (request callback after 3pm) 2. Make sure your phone accepts unknown/blocked numbers 3. Check your eServices account for any alerts requiring action 4. Submit a secure message through the portal (sometimes they respond within 48 hours) 5. Contact your state representative if you've been waiting more than 3 weeks 6. Consider using Claimyr if you're in a desperate situation Also, always keep documenting your weekly claims even if you're waiting for adjudication. Once approved, you'll receive backpay for all properly filed weeks.

•This is an excellent summary! Wish I'd had this list weeks ago. One additional tip: if you get a callback but miss it, they usually try again once more within the hour. If you miss both calls, you have to start the process over again.
