FAST trick to reach ESD reps through helpdesk line (worked today!)

Hey everyone, just wanted to share some success after 3 weeks of frustration! I couldn't get through to ESD about my adjudication hold (kept getting disconnected after 2+ hours waiting). Today I tried something different that actually worked! There's an e-services helpdesk with actual people who picked up after only 9 minutes: 1-855-682-0785 The rep couldn't directly fix my adjudication issue, but she transferred me directly to a claims specialist who could! No automated menu hell, no 3-hour wait. The helpdesk rep put notes on my account before transferring so I didn't have to repeat my whole story. Just sharing in case anyone else is desperate to talk to a human at ESD. I know some might think this clogs up the helpdesk line for tech issues, but after 23 days with no money coming in and rent due next week, I was desperate.

Thank you for sharing this resource! The e-services helpdesk is primarily designed to help with technical issues (login problems, error messages, etc.), but they can sometimes assist with transfers to the right department. For those reading, please remember that the main ESD unemployment line (800-318-6022) is still the official channel for claim-specific questions. The helpdesk staff have limited training on unemployment policies and can't directly resolve claim issues. If you do use this approach, please be courteous to the helpdesk staff - they're trying to help everyone as efficiently as possible!

You're absolutely right - I should've been clearer! The helpdesk people were super nice but definitely couldn't answer my actual claim questions. They just helped me get connected to someone who could without the usual disconnects and hours of waiting. I was totally honest that I needed help with my claim (didn't pretend it was a tech issue).

I just explained that I'd been trying the main line for weeks with no success and really needed help with my adjudication issue. I was honest about it not being a technical problem, but explained I was about to miss rent. The woman was really understanding and said while they don't normally do transfers for non-tech issues, she could see I'd made multiple attempts through the proper channels.

I've been dealing with ESD for years (both personally and helping family members), and while this might work in a pinch, it's not ideal to overload the helpdesk with claim questions. They're really there to help with technical issues like website errors and login problems. If you need to reach a claims specialist quickly, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was skeptical at first, but they have a system that helps you get through the phone queue at ESD. You can see how it works in their demo video: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 It saved me hours of frustration when I had an identity verification issue last month. Better than tying up the helpdesk which could cause longer waits for people with legitimate tech issues.

does that really work? seems kinda sketchy to me. has anyone else used this?

I used Claimyr when my claim was stuck in adjudication for 5 weeks. Got through to ESD in about 20 minutes instead of getting disconnected over and over. The agent was able to clear the issue and I got paid three days later. Worth every penny considering I was about to miss my car payment.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is NOT going to work for much longer. ESD specifically trains their helpdesk staff NOT to transfer claim calls that should go through the main line. I worked at ESD until 2023 and we were constantly dealing with this issue. What happens is this: 1) people discover this "shortcut" 2) helpdesk gets overwhelmed with non-tech calls 3) management cracks down and forbids transfers 4) people with legitimate tech issues can't get help The real problem is ESD is MASSIVELY understaffed for the call volume they receive. They lost a ton of experienced staff after the pandemic surge and haven't replaced them. The system is broken but using workarounds just breaks it differently. 😞

So what are we supposed to do then??? I've been calling for WEEKS and can't get through. My benefits stopped for no reason I can figure out and I can't pay my bills. It's easy to say "don't use workarounds" when you're not the one going hungry.

I completely understand the frustration. I dealt with hundreds of people in your exact situation. The best approach is to: 1) Call right when they open at 8am, 2) Use the callback feature rather than holding, 3) Try Wednesday/Thursday when call volume is typically lower, 4) Send a secure message through your eServices account explaining your situation. If it's truly urgent (like eviction/utility shutoff), contact your state representative - they have special channels to ESD for constituent services.

you know what I tried calling that number and the lady just told me she couldn't help with claims and wouldn't transfer me. said they got a memo about not doing transfers anymore because too many people were using it as a "shortcut" just like someone predicted above. back to square one I guess 😭

Oh no, that happened fast! I'm sorry it didn't work for you - I guess I just got lucky with a nice rep yesterday. This whole system is so broken.

i've spent 17 HOURS on hold with esd over the past two weeks!!! seventeen!!!!! and got disconnected every single time. this is my FOURTH claim over the years and it's never been this bad. their phone system is completely broken. i'm going to try your trick tomorrow and i don't even care if it's not the "right" way. my kids need to eat.

Sounds like they might have already shut down this workaround - see the comment above 😢 This system is such garbage

I don't think people understand how desperate it gets when you're relying on unemployment benefits that suddenly stop with no explanation. After my hours were cut in January, I filed for partial unemployment. Everything was fine for 6 weeks, then suddenly my payments stopped with a mysterious "adjudication" status. After two weeks of failed call attempts through the main line, I finally reached someone using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a system that navigates the phone tree and gets you in line without you having to keep redialing. There's a demo on their site: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The issue turned out to be that my employer had contested my availability (saying I turned down hours, which wasn't true). Once I finally got through to explain, the adjudicator cleared it right away. If I'd been able to reach someone sooner, I wouldn't have fallen behind on bills.

yah but how much does that service cost? seems wrong we have to PAY to access a government service we already paid for with our taxes!

I get the frustration about having to pay for access, but when you're facing late fees, overdrafts, and credit score damage from missed payments, the cost felt insignificant compared to the relief of getting my benefits flowing again. Sometimes you have to pick your battles.
