Can't reach ESD about my adjudication - what number actually connects to a real person?

I'm literally going crazy trying to speak with someone at ESD about my adjudication issue! I've called the main number (855-682-0785) like 20 times this week, but all I get is that stupid automated system that doesn't have ANY options to talk about adjudication. My claim has been stuck for 5 weeks now and I'm about to miss another rent payment. Has anyone actually managed to speak to a real person? Is there a secret number or extension I don't know about? I've sent messages through eServices but haven't heard anything back either. Getting desperate here!!!

Unfortunately, reaching a live agent at ESD is incredibly difficult right now. The main number is correct, but they're experiencing extremely high call volume. Try calling exactly at 8:00am when they open - that's when I finally got through last month. Also, make sure you're selecting option 2 for existing claims, then option 3 for claim status (even though it doesn't specifically mention adjudication). If the system says they can't take calls, hang up and redial immediately. Sometimes it takes 30+ attempts in a row.

Thanks for the tips! I'll try the 8am thing tomorrow. I've been selecting option 4 for 'other questions' thinking that would get me to a person faster. So frustrating they don't have a direct option for adjudication when so many people are stuck in it!

Wow, 50 times is crazy but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Did they actually help with your adjudication when you finally got through?

I was stuck in adjudication hell for nearly 7 weeks and couldn't get through on the phone no matter what time I called. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an ESD agent within 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I got through to an actual person, they found that my adjudication was stuck because they needed additional verification from my previous employer. The agent was able to push it through that same day, and my payment was released 48 hours later. Seriously worth it after weeks of frustration.

I've heard about that service too. My neighbor used it when her standby status wasn't showing up correctly. Said it saved her from having to call hundreds of times.

The ESD phone system is intentionally designed to prevent people from reaching agents. It's a cost-saving measure - they simply don't staff enough people to handle the volume. I spent 15 YEARS working in a call center (not ESD), and I can tell you this is deliberate. They know exactly how many people are trying to call and choose not to staff accordingly. I've been through adjudication THREE TIMES with ESD over the years and every time it's the same runaround. You have better odds winning the lottery than getting someone on the phone using their regular number. And even if you do get through, half the agents don't know how to properly resolve adjudication issues. If your case is truly stuck in adjudication, calling won't necessarily fix it. Someone has to actually review your case file. But at minimum, an agent can tell you WHY it's in adjudication and how much longer it might take.

This makes me so angry! We pay into this system with our taxes and then when we actually need help they make it impossible to reach anyone? I just want to know what's happening with my claim and if there's anything I need to do to move it forward.

Have you tried contacting your state representative? When my claim was stuck for 6 weeks, I emailed my district rep's office and they contacted ESD on my behalf. Got a call back from ESD two days later, and my claim was processed the same week. Worth a shot if nothing else is working.

That's actually a really good idea I hadn't thought of. I'll look up who my rep is. Did you just email their office explaining the situation?

Adjudication is a specific legal process where an ESD claims specialist has to review your claim when there's a potential issue that could affect your eligibility. Common reasons include: 1. Your employer disputing your reason for separation 2. Questions about your ability/availability for work 3. Job search compliance issues 4. Potential earnings reporting discrepancies Standard adjudication takes 3-4 weeks, but with current volumes, many cases are taking 6-8 weeks or longer. The system won't tell you specifically what's causing your adjudication because that's determined by the specialist. The best approach is to: 1. Keep filing your weekly claims while you wait 2. Check your eServices account daily for any correspondence 3. Respond immediately to ANY requests for information 4. Try reaching an agent through the main number using the methods others suggested Uncomplicated adjudications do eventually resolve automatically, but if there's something specific they need from you, your claim will remain stuck until they can reach you or you reach them.

This is really helpful info, thank you! I've been filing my weekly claims religiously and checking eServices multiple times a day. I think in my case it might be that my former employer is disputing something, as the separation wasn't exactly friendly. I'll keep trying to get through on the phone.
