Can't reach ESD by phone for 3 weeks - exhausted all options
I've been trying to reach someone at ESD for THREE WEEKS about my unemployment claim that's been stuck in adjudication since January 2nd. My weekly claims are all showing as "pending" and I haven't received a single payment in 2025 yet. I've tried calling their main number literally 40+ times (no exaggeration), sent messages through eServices, and even tried the virtual assistant bot thing. NOTHING! I'm about to get evicted because I can't pay rent. Has anyone managed to actually speak to a human being at ESD recently? What time of day should I be calling? Is there a specific number that actually works? I'm desperate and running out of options...

same thing happend to me last month!! the trick is to call exactly at 8am when they open. dont waste ur time after 9 becuz all the lines are full by then. took me 6 days of calling right at 8 but finally got thru.

•Thanks, I'll try the 8am thing tomorrow. Do you remember which number you called? I've been using the 800-318-6022 one.

I was in the exact same situation in mid-January. My claim was in adjudication for nearly 5 weeks with no payments. Unfortunately, calling repeatedly at different times rarely works because their phone system is completely overloaded. When I finally got through to an agent, they told me they're handling a massive backlog of claims right now. Here's what actually worked for me: 1. Submit a detailed message through eServices specifically mentioning financial hardship (eviction risk) 2. Contact your state representative's office - they can sometimes expedite ESD cases 3. Follow up on your eServices messages every 72 hours (don't spam daily) The hardship situation should get you prioritized, but it might still take a week or two for resolution.

•I didn't think about contacting my state rep! That's actually a great idea. I'll try that tomorrow. And I've been messaging them through eServices but I'll make sure to specifically mention the eviction risk. Thank you!

I had success using Claimyr to get through to ESD. After weeks of trying on my own, I was connected to an agent in less than 2 hours. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. The agent I spoke with was able to see that my adjudication was stuck because of an employer response issue and they escalated it while I was on the phone.

•does that actually work??? seems sketchy to use a third party service when were already dealing with the goverment?

•It's not sketchy at all - they just help you get through the phone queue faster. You still talk directly to the actual ESD agents, not intermediaries. I was skeptical too but was desperate after 3 weeks of trying on my own.

If your claim is stuck in adjudication, there's likely a specific issue that needs resolving. The most common reasons are: - Employer dispute about your separation reason - Identity verification problems - Able and available questions on your weekly claims - Job search requirement issues When you do reach an agent (whether through regular calling or a service), make sure to ask them specifically what's causing the adjudication holdup. Sometimes they can resolve simple issues on the spot, but more complex ones require specialist adjudicators. Do check your eServices account for any letters or action items - sometimes there are questionnaires or document upload requirements that aren't clearly indicated.

•I think it might be an employer issue because my former company contested my claim initially (they said I quit when I was actually laid off due to budget cuts). I have documentation proving it was a layoff but nobody at ESD has asked for it. I check eServices daily and there are no letters or action items showing up. Just the same pending status for weeks now.

THE ESD SYSTEM IS TOTALLY BROKEN!!!! I waited 9 WEEKS to get my claim approved last year. They don't care about regular people at all!! The only thing that finally worked was when I contacted my state senator's office and they did an inquiry on my behalf. Suddenly my claim was approved 3 days later. COINCIDENCE????? The whole system is designed to make people give up!!!!

•While I understand your frustration, the system isn't actually designed to make people give up. ESD is dealing with staffing shortages and outdated computer systems. Contacting your legislative representative is absolutely a valid approach when you're stuck in the system - they have dedicated ESD liaisons who can help resolve issues. However, most claims do get processed without legislative intervention, it just takes longer than it should.

hey quick question sorta related - if ur claim is in adjudication, do u still need to do the job search activities? i've been doing them but not sure if its necessary during adjudication or if that starts after approval?

•Yes, you absolutely need to continue doing and documenting your job search activities every week, even during adjudication. If you don't, and your claim is eventually approved, you could be disqualified for those weeks where you didn't complete the required activities. The standard requirement is 3 job search activities per week unless you have an approved job search plan that specifies otherwise.

UPDATE: I finally got through today! I tried the Claimyr service that someone mentioned in the comments and was connected to an ESD agent within about 90 minutes. The agent was actually super helpful - turns out my former employer did contest the claim saying I quit (I didn't), but the adjudicator hadn't processed all the documentation I uploaded at the beginning. The agent escalated my case and said I should have a decision within 3-5 business days. She also put a hardship flag on my account because of my potential eviction situation. Thanks everyone for the advice! I'll update when I hear about the decision.

•Great news! Make sure to keep doing your weekly claims while you wait for the decision. If they approve your claim, they'll pay all those pending weeks at once. The hardship flag should definitely help speed things up.

i had something similar happen with my former job. they tried saying i was fired for misconduct when actually they eliminated my whole department!! make sure u have any emails or paperwork showing it was a layoff. the adjudicator might call u for a phone interview to explain ur side.

•Thankfully I saved all the emails about the layoff, including the one from HR that specifically calls it a "reduction in force" and mentions the department restructuring. I uploaded those with my initial claim but I guess they didn't look at them yet. The agent I spoke with today said she could see them in my file and added notes about where to find them.
