ESD missed my scheduled callback - is this normal or should I try reaching them again?

I finally got through to ESD yesterday after trying for almost 2 weeks straight. The agent said my claim needed review and scheduled a callback with a specialist for today between 8am-12pm. It's now 2:30pm and I haven't received any call. My phone has been on me the whole time, good reception, and I've been checking to make sure I didn't miss anything. Is this normal for ESD to miss their scheduled callback windows? Should I try calling again or will that mess up my place in their system? Really stressed because my claim has been stuck in adjudication for almost 5 weeks now and rent is coming up.

Sadly, this is pretty typical. ESD has been TERRIBLE about keeping callback appointments lately. I had the same thing happen twice last month. The first time they never called at all, and the second time they called 2 days later with no warning. The system is completely broken!! If you wait, you might never get a call. If you call again, you'll probably get put in another callback queue. It's a lose-lose situation.

Ugh that's so frustrating to hear. Did you eventually get your issue resolved? I'm worried if I call again I'll lose my place or something.

Did they at least apologize for the delay when they finally called?

Unfortunately, this happens a lot with ESD. Their call volume is extremely high right now, and specialists often get backed up with complex cases. I would recommend waiting until tomorrow before trying again. Sometimes they'll still call the next day without telling you about the delay. If you don't hear anything by tomorrow afternoon, you should definitely call again. Make sure to mention that you had a scheduled callback that was missed - sometimes they can prioritize those cases.

Thanks for the advice. I'll wait until tomorrow afternoon then try again. It's just so stressful having this claim in limbo for over a month now.

I work at a job center and see this constantly. ESD's callback system is completely unreliable these days. The issue is that specialists get assigned too many cases and the scheduled callbacks are more like suggestions than actual appointments. Have you tried going through the eServices portal to send a secure message? Sometimes that can get better results than phone tag.

I've sent three messages through eServices over the past month with no response. It feels like there's no reliable way to reach them at all.

After dealing with the same issue for weeks, I finally tried using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual ESD agent. They have a system that basically waits on hold for you and connects you directly to ESD. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent I spoke with actually explained that their callback system has been glitching lately and many scheduled callbacks aren't making it to the agents' daily task lists. The only reliable way is to actually get through to someone directly.

Is that service legit? Seems sketchy to have someone else call unemployment for you...

They don't call for you - they just navigate the phone tree and wait on hold, then connect you directly when an agent picks up. You're the one who actually talks to ESD. I was skeptical too but it worked well.

I recommend waiting exactly 24 hours from your originally scheduled callback window. ESD's internal policy is that missed callbacks should be attempted the following business day. If you still don't receive a call by then, you should call the main line again and specifically mention you had a scheduled callback that was missed. When you call, request to speak with a supervisor and explain the situation. Be sure to have your original call reference number if they provided one. Document every interaction - date, time, name of agent (if provided), and what was discussed. The adjudication process can indeed take 4-6 weeks currently, but having a missed callback shouldn't extend that timeline. Make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims while waiting for adjudication to be completed.

Thank you for this detailed advice. I didn't get a reference number unfortunately, but I've been documenting everything else. And yes, I'm still filing my weekly claims regularly.

Just a quick update check - did ESD ever call you back? If not, I would definitely recommend calling them again. When claims are in adjudication for 5+ weeks, it sometimes means there's a documentation issue they need from you that might not be clearly marked in your online portal. Make sure to specifically ask if there are any documents or information they're waiting for from you. Sometimes the system doesn't properly notify claimants about pending document requests.

They actually called this morning at 8:15am! Four days after the scheduled time. The specialist said there was a question about my work search activities but we got it sorted out. She said my claim should be processed within 5-7 business days. Fingers crossed!
