ESD weekly claim stuck on work hours question despite having 0 hours at part-time job
I'm so frustrated with the ESD weekly claim system right now! I work a variable-hours part-time job at a garden center (usually 5-15 hours per week) while collecting unemployment from my main job. Last week my manager didn't schedule me ANY hours (slow season), but when filing my weekly claim, the system won't let me proceed past the work hours question. When I answer 'Yes' to still being employed but input 0 hours, it cycles back to the same screen. If I select 'No' (didn't work), it immediately asks if I've separated from the employer. I haven't! I'm still employed, just wasn't given any hours last week. Has anyone dealt with this weird ESD system glitch? I don't want to accidentally report that I've quit when I haven't!

This is a common issue with ESD's weekly claim system. When you have variable hours at a part-time job, you should select 'Yes' that you worked, but then on the hours page, put in 0.00 for hours and $0.00 for earnings. Don't select that you didn't work or you separated - those options are for when you completely end employment with the company. Double-check that you're entering exactly 0.00 with decimal points, as sometimes the system gets picky about format. If it still cycles back, try using a different browser or clearing your cache.

•Thank you so much! I swear I tried entering 0 hours, but I'm going to try again with the exact format you mentioned (0.00). Maybe that's the issue. I'll try a different browser too just to be safe.

omg this EXACT thing happened to me last month with my retail job!! so frustrating!!! the way i fixed it was clicking YES for still employed, then on the next screen i put in 0.00 hours. when it asked if i had seperation i just hit NO and it finally let me continue. if that doesnt work call ESD but good luckkkkk with that lol

•Glad I'm not the only one! The system is so glitchy. I'll try your exact sequence and see if it works. Did you have any issues with your claim after figuring out this workaround?

•nope my claim went thru fine after! just make sure you keep any proof that you were still employed in case they question it later. i took a screenshot of my work schedule app showing i wasnt scheduled

Wait until you get an overpayment notice months later because of this exact issue! ESD's system is terrible with variable hour jobs. I spent 8 months fighting them because the system wouldn't let me properly report my catering job hours when they were 0 for a week. Make sure you document EVERYTHING!

•Oh no, that sounds awful! Did you eventually get it resolved? I'm definitely keeping screenshots of everything now.

The technical issue you're experiencing is due to how the ESD system handles variable work reporting. Here's the correct procedure for your situation: 1. Select 'Yes' to being employed 2. Enter exactly '0.00' for hours (include decimal) 3. Enter '0.00' for earnings 4. Select 'No' when asked if you separated from employer 5. On the final review page, add a note in the comments section explaining you are still employed but had zero scheduled hours If the system continues to loop, you need to contact ESD directly as it could indicate a flag on your claim requiring adjudication. This happens sometimes with variable-hour workers.

•This is incredibly helpful - especially the tip about adding a note in the comments section. I didn't even think about that! I'm going to try this exact sequence.

I've been calling ESD for 2 WEEKS about a similar issue and can't get through. Literally 100+ calls, always disconnected. The whole system is broken. I finally started using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Way better than spending hours redialing. The agent fixed my issue with zero hours reporting in like 5 minutes once I finally got through.

•Thank you for the suggestion! I'm going to try the technical fixes others mentioned first, but if I need to call ESD I'll definitely check out that service. The thought of making 100+ calls makes me want to scream.

•is that service legit tho? seems sketchy to me

•It's definitely legit - it just helps you get through the phone system. I was skeptical too but was desperate after so many failed call attempts. The video demo shows exactly how it works.

This is literally why I quit my part-time job while on unemployment. The reporting system is impossible with variable hours. Just a heads up - I tried for weeks to get this exact issue fixed and ended up with my claim being put in adjudication for 6 weeks! The ESD system is programmed for traditional employment and completely fails with modern variable-hour jobs. If you can't get the system to accept your report online, you MUST call them before your next weekly claim or you risk getting your whole claim flagged.

•That's really concerning. I definitely don't want my claim going into adjudication. If I can't fix it with these suggestions I'll definitely call before filing next week.

my cousin works at a hotel with verible hours and she said you need to put 0.01 hour and 0.01$ instead of 0.00. something about the system not accepting true zero values. tried it?

•Please don't do this. Reporting 0.01 hours when you worked zero hours is technically misreporting, even if it's a tiny amount. This could create problems later if your claim is audited. The system does accept 0.00 when entered correctly - the issue is usually with the sequence of questions or browser compatibility.

UPDATE: I tried several of your suggestions and finally got it to work! Here's what worked for me: 1. I cleared my browser cache and used Edge instead of Chrome 2. Selected 'Yes' to still being employed 3. Entered '0.00' (with decimal) for hours 4. Entered '0.00' for earnings 5. Selected 'No' when asked about separation 6. Added a note in the comments explaining I'm still employed but had zero scheduled hours The system finally accepted it! Thank you all so much for your help. I'm definitely keeping screenshots of everything in case there are issues later.
