ESD showing $0 weekly benefit despite 2400+ work hours - claim says ineligible?
Really frustrated and confused right now. Applied for unemployment yesterday and checked my eServices account today to find my claim shows as 'Ineligible' with a weekly benefit amount of $0. I received a monetary determination letter confirming I'll get nothing weekly, which makes absolutely no sense. I worked over 2400 hours in my base year (way above the 680 minimum needed) and my separation was employer-initiated (I was terminated, did NOT quit). There's no explicit denial letter, just this $0 determination. Should I keep waiting for this to update or is something seriously wrong? Do I need to appeal this determination or call ESD? I've heard the phone lines are impossible. Has anyone experienced something similar where their hours clearly qualified but the system showed $0? Typical timeframe for this to resolve? Thanks in advance for any help during this stressful time.

•Thanks for the response! Did you have to provide additional wage documentation when you called? I'm worried because I have all my paystubs but some are electronic and I'd need to download them all.

There are a few common reasons this might happen: 1. Your wages may not be in the correct quarter for the base year calculation (ESD looks at the first 4 of the last 5 completed calendar quarters) 2. Your employer might not have reported your wages properly to ESD 3. You might have worked in multiple states and need to file a combined wage claim 4. There could be an identity verification issue that's preventing your wages from being properly accessed You should definitely appeal this determination - you have 30 days from the date on your monetary determination letter. While waiting for the appeal, also try to get through to an ESD agent who can look at your specific situation. Don't wait on this as the appeal deadline is strict.

•EXACTLY what happened with me!!!! My employer had my SSN wrong on their quarterly reports and ESD couldn't match my wages. Took 6 weeks to fix and I almost lost my apartment waiting.

have u checked if ur in the right base year? sometimes if u worked in a different quarter than what esd is looking at this can happen. also file ur weekly claims even while waiting for this to get fixed!!

•I hadn't thought about the base year issue. I did change jobs about 8 months ago - could that be affecting things? And yes, I'll definitely keep filing weekly claims. Thanks for the reminder!

You need to file a wage appeal immediately. Don't just keep waiting because this won't fix itself. Here's what to do: 1. Go to your eServices account and look for the 'Request a Wage Appeal' option under the UI section 2. Gather all your pay stubs/W-2s from your base year (which is likely Q1-Q4 2024 if you just applied) 3. Submit copies of these with your appeal 4. Continue filing weekly claims while this gets resolved I've seen this happen when employers misreport wages or when people work for multiple employers. The good news is that once fixed, you'll get backpay for all weeks you properly claimed. The bad news is this can take 3-6 weeks to resolve.

•Thanks for the detailed steps! I've found the wage appeal section in my account. Should I also try calling ESD while the appeal is processing, or is that redundant?

I tried calling ESD for weeks with a similar issue and couldn't get through on their regular number. The wait times are insane right now - I'd be on hold for 3+ hours and then get disconnected. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent found that my previous employer had reported my wages under a slightly different name which caused the system to not count those hours. They fixed it right away and my claim was updated within 48 hours.

•does this claimyr thing actually work? seems sketchy to use a third party service for something like this. did u have to give them ur ssn or anything??

•It's just a callback service - they don't need any personal info except your phone number. They just help you skip the ESD phone queue. You still talk directly to ESD agents, not to Claimyr people. Was definitely worth it for me since I couldn't get through otherwise.

DONT LISTEN TO PPL SAYING WAIT!!!! U have to fight this NOW!!! I had the EXACT same thing happen ($0 benefit when I should have qualified) and I waited 3 weeks thinking it would resolve itself. HUGE MISTAKE!!! File that wage appeal today and try calling non-stop. The system is BROKEN and wont fix itself!!!

•I definitely won't wait - that sounds like a nightmare scenario. I'm going to file the appeal today and try to get through on the phone. Thank you for the warning!

sometimes this happens if u have multiple employers or if u worked in different states. did u work anywhere else besides the job u got terminated from?

•No, I've only had one employer in Washington for the past 2 years. That's why I'm so confused about why my hours/wages aren't showing up correctly.

Based on your replies, it sounds like this is either a wage reporting error or potentially a base year calculation issue. Since you only had one employer in WA, I'd recommend taking these steps in this order: 1. File the wage appeal with copies of all your paystubs 2. Try to reach an ESD agent by phone to get this expedited (they can sometimes fix obvious errors immediately) 3. Continue filing weekly claims without fail 4. If your employer terminated you, make sure you're prepared to address that as well - there may be a separate adjudication for that issue The good news is that with 2400+ hours, once this is fixed you should qualify for a substantial weekly benefit amount. Just don't let the appeal deadline pass.

•Thank you for the comprehensive advice. I've started the wage appeal process today and uploaded scans of my paystubs. Going to keep trying the phone lines too. Appreciate everyone's help with this!

did they send u a letter explaining WHY ur ineligible or just the $0 notice? sometimes there's an actual reason listed somewhere in ur correspondence or eservices account

•Just the monetary determination showing $0 - there's no explanation or reason given. The online status just says 'ineligible' with no details, which is making this even more frustrating.
