ESD claim payment speed: Phone vs. online filing - any difference?

So I've been filing my weekly claims through eServices, but this week my claim still says "processing" after 3 days. I'm starting to get nervous about when I'll see the money. Someone at my job mentioned they always file by phone because they get paid faster that way. Is this actually true or just a myth? Does the method you use to file (phone vs. website) affect how quickly ESD processes your payment? Not a huge emergency yet but my rent is due next week and I'm cutting it close. Thanks for any insights!

Nah it doesn't matter. I've tried both and got paid same time either way. Usually takes 2-3 business days after filing. If ur still on processing after 5 days somethings prob wrong with ur claim tbh

Great, that's what I was afraid of. Guess I'll be calling them tomorrow. Just didn't want to waste time on the phone if it wasn't necessary.

The payment processing timeline is the same regardless of how you file (phone or online). What can delay payments is if there's an issue with your claim that triggered adjudication or additional verification. I recommend checking if there are any alerts or messages in your eServices account that might explain why it's still processing. If your previous payments were quick but this one is delayed, something might have flagged in the system.

Thanks for explaining! I just checked and there's nothing showing in my alerts. All my previous payments came through in about 2 days, so this is definitely unusual. I'll give it one more day before I start panicking.

The filing method doesn't change payment speed. What DOES matter is what day of the week you file. If you file Sunday or Monday, you'll typically get paid faster than filing later in the week. I always file Sunday morning and get paid Tuesday. What day did you file this week?

I actually filed Wednesday this week instead of my usual Monday filing. That might explain it! I had an interview on Monday and completely forgot to file. Hopefully it's just delayed because of that.

ESD NEVER NOTIFIES ANYONE WHEN THERE'S A PROBLEM!!!! I had a payment stuck in "processing" for TWO WEEKS and when I finally got through to them, they said there was a "verification issue" that I needed to fix!!! But NOTHING showed up on my account!!!! Had to waste THREE DAYS calling non-stop to get a human who could help. This system is BROKEN!!!!!

Oh no, that sounds awful! Now I'm really worried. Did you eventually get everything sorted out?

Yeah, but only after missing a car payment and getting hit with late fees. Make sure you start calling ASAP - don't wait like I did thinking it would magically fix itself!

When I was having issues with payments getting stuck in processing, I used Claimyr to get through to an ESD agent quickly instead of waiting on hold forever. Just went to claimyr.com and they had me talking to someone at ESD in like 20 minutes. They have a video demo here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. The agent told me my claim had a small verification flag that was holding things up - something I never would have known otherwise. Got it fixed on the spot and payment came the next day.

I had something similar happen to me once where my claim suddenly took longer to process than usual and I thought something was wrong. Called in and they said something about batch processing and system maintenance. Got paid like 2 days later than usual. So could just be normal system delays.

One more thing to check - did you report any earnings this week? Even small amounts can sometimes trigger a slower manual review. Also, if you answered any of the weekly questions differently than usual (like saying you turned down work or didn't complete job search requirements), that would definitely slow things down.

I did report some part-time hours this week! That's probably it. I picked up a shift at my old job and reported about $180 in earnings. Didn't realize that might slow things down.

Mystery solved then! First-time earnings reports almost always trigger a slower processing time as they verify the information. Future weeks should go back to normal speed once they've processed this change in your claim pattern.

btw my roommate works for a company that does payroll processing and she says all electronic payments follow basically the same timeline no matter how they get entered into the system. its all about when the batch processing happens. phone vs online is just how the data gets in but after that its all the same process
