Weekly claim paid within hours after filing by phone - why is it faster than online?

So I've been filing my weekly claims online for the past month and they usually take 2-3 days to process before showing as paid. This week I decided to try filing by phone at literally 12:01am Sunday (couldn't sleep anyway) and checked this morning at 5:17am... it already says PAID! That's like less than 6 hours! Did ESD process phone claims faster than online ones? Did everyone who filed online last week switch to calling this week? I'm genuinely shocked at the difference in processing time. Should I just do phone filing from now on?

same thing happened to me!!! filed by phone Sunday morning and got paid Tuesday instead of Thursday like usual. think they prioritize phone claims maybe???

So it's not just me! I wonder why they don't tell people about this? Seems like a weird system to have different processing times based on how you file.

The payment processing timeline shouldn't be different between phone and online filing methods. What you're experiencing is likely just coincidental timing. ESD processes claims in batches, and sometimes the timing of when you submit aligns perfectly with their processing schedule. Filing right at midnight might have put you at the front of a processing queue, but the method (phone vs online) itself shouldn't matter.

That makes sense about the batches. Just weird that after weeks of consistent processing times, the one time I switch to phone it's suddenly way faster. Guess I'll try phone again next week to test the theory!

HAHAHA don't spread this around or EVERYONE will start filing at midnight on Sunday and the phone system will crash! Been on UI for 4 months now and I've noticed processing times are totally random regardless of how you file. One week took 5 days, next week took 1 day. ESD systems are just weird.

I've been having a nightmare trying to even get through to ESD to fix an issue with my claim. Had to call over 50 times this week before getting through! I just tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) after seeing it recommended here and got connected to an ESD agent in 25 minutes. They even have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Wish I'd known about this weeks ago instead of burning through my cell phone minutes.

Thanks for the tip! I actually have a separate issue with my claim that I need to talk to someone about, so that might be really helpful. 50 calls is insane - I don't have the patience for that.

The payment timing variation you're experiencing is actually normal in the ESD system. There are several factors that affect payment processing time: 1. Day of week you file (Sunday filers generally get processed first) 2. Time of day (early morning batches vs afternoon batches) 3. Current system load (how many claims are being processed) 4. Whether your claim has any flags requiring review Phone and online submissions go into the same processing queue, but the exact timing of when you submit can affect where in the queue you land. Filing at 12:01am Sunday by phone likely put you at the very front of the weekly processing cycle, which could explain the faster payment.

Oh wow, I had no idea there were so many factors! That's really helpful to understand. I assumed it was just random or that they deliberately processed phone claims faster. Filing right at midnight probably did put me at the front of the line.

i file online every week same time (sunday afternoon) and my payments are always different sometimes tuesday sometimes thursday one time took till friday dunno why ESD is so inconsistent its frustrating when ur trying to budget!!!

THIS. I've learned to just pretend the money isn't coming until Friday regardless of when I file. That way I'm either right or pleasantly surprised lol.

Interesting data point! I've been tracking my UI payment processing times for the past 13 weeks (yes, I'm that person with a spreadsheet 😂). Here's what I've found: - Average processing time: 2.3 days - Filing before 8am Sunday: 1.7 days average - Filing after 6pm Sunday: 3.1 days average - Monday filings: 3.8 days average So your timing of 12:01am Sunday likely made a significant difference! The system was probably just booting up the weekly processing cycle and you got in first. The phone vs. online probably didn't matter as much as the exact timing.

I'm impressed by your data tracking! That's really useful information. Seems like filing as early as possible on Sunday makes a big difference. I'm going to try the same timing next week and see if I get similar results.

This data tracking is excellent and matches what we typically see in the system. Sunday early morning filers generally do get processed first in the weekly cycle, regardless of filing method.

my neighbor said she heard from someone at worksource that ESD is switching to a new payment system next month and everything will be faster for everyone... anyone else hear about this??

I haven't seen any official announcements about a new payment system launching next month. ESD typically announces major system changes well in advance on their website and through claimant emails. I'd be cautious about relying on unofficial information about system changes.
