ESD appeal approved - can't see claim button for 12/1 restart date
Kind of lost here with my benefits timeline... I had to appeal my disqualification and stopped filing weekly claims on 10/26 since my payments weren't coming through anyway. Got the GREAT news that my appeal was approved on 11/26 (took exactly a month). When I logged into eServices today, the system asked me to restart my claim effective 12/1. I did that part, but now I'm confused because I don't see any button or option to actually submit my weekly claim for 12/1. Do I have to wait until this Sunday to file for this week, or should there be a claim button somewhere that I'm missing? I'm worried about missing deadlines after finally winning my appeal. Anyone deal with this restart process before?

Congrats on winning your appeal! For restart dates, you always file for the week AFTER it fully processes. So if your restart date was 12/1, you'll need to wait until this Sunday to file for the week of 12/1-12/7. The system won't show a claim button until Sunday because technically the week isn't complete yet. ESD won't let you file for partial weeks.

•Ok that makes sense! So even though my restart date is 12/1, I basically can't claim until this coming Sunday for the full week? I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious in the system.

•That's actually my next question! The approval letter mentioned something about backdated payments but didn't say how to claim them. Guess I need to figure that out too.

You'll definitely need to wait until Sunday. The system resets every Sunday morning (usually between 1-3am) and that's when the file claim button appears. But here's what you should be doing right now - call ESD to ask about those back weeks during your appeal period! You probably need to file those separately since they're outside the normal timeframe, and you don't want to miss out on that money. I spent 2 weeks trying to get through to ESD about my backdated weeks after an appeal and it was IMPOSSIBLE. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent was able to open up those backdated weeks so I could file for them. Don't wait or you might lose those weeks!

To clarify the process completely: 1. When an appeal is approved, ESD will process your restart with an effective date (in your case 12/1) 2. You CANNOT file for partial weeks, so you must wait until the week is complete (Sunday) 3. For backdated weeks during your appeal period, you need to specifically request those weeks to be opened 4. This requires contacting an ESD agent directly, as these weeks won't automatically appear in your weekly claim options 5. You typically have a limited window to file for backdated weeks (usually 30 days from appeal decision) The restart only applies to future weeks, not the missed weeks during appeal. Those are handled separately through the backdating process.

•Thanks for the detailed explanation! I'll definitely call about those backdated weeks ASAP. Do you know if I need to have any specific information ready when I call? My appeal approval letter or anything?

Yes, have your approval letter ready with the appeal decision number, plus know exactly which weeks you need backdated (exact dates). Also be prepared to explain why you didn't file during those weeks (you can honestly say you were waiting for appeal decision). The more specific information you have ready, the smoother the process will go.

•THE WHOLE ESD SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO CONFUSE PEOPLE AND MAKE THEM MISS DEADLINES!!!! They never tell you about backdating until its too late!!! I lost 2 MONTHS of benefits because nobody told me I had to ASK for backdated weeks!!! The approval letter should explain this stuff but NOPE they keep it vague on purpose!!!

•Yes, technically you need to report 3 job search activities for each week you're claiming, even backdated ones. However, if you explain that you didn't know you needed to document them during your appeal, some agents will allow you to complete them retroactively or may provide a temporary exemption based on your specific situation. Have your job search logs ready when you call, even if they're incomplete. Better to have something than nothing.

Quick update - I called this morning (got through surprisingly quickly) and the agent confirmed I need to wait until Sunday to file my first claim after restart. She also helped me file for the 4 backdated weeks during my appeal! I had to verbally provide job search activities for each week, so I'm glad I kept rough notes of places I applied even when I wasn't getting paid. Thanks everyone for the help! Hope this thread helps someone else navigate the confusing restart process after winning an appeal.
