ESD showing "restart claim" message after already reopening my UI claim - system glitch?
Super confused about my unemployment claim status right now. I originally filed back in June 2025, submitted my waiting week, then immediately found work so I only claimed for that one week. Now I'm laid off again (ugh), so I reopened my claim earlier this week and got the confirmation email saying my claim was successfully reopened. I'm all set to file my weekly claim this Sunday, but when I log into my eServices account, I still see a message saying I need to "restart my claim to begin filing again." What gives? I already restarted it and got the confirmation! Is the ESD system just being glitchy, or am I missing something important here? I'm worried if I ignore it and just try to file on Sunday, something will get messed up with my claim. Anyone else dealt with this weird "restart claim" message even after successfully reopening?

This is actually a common issue with ESD's system when there's been a gap in filing. The confirmation email is correct - your claim HAS been reopened, but sometimes their website doesn't update the status right away. Wait about 24-48 hours and check again. If the message is still there after that, then I'd recommend going ahead and filing your weekly claim on Sunday anyway. The system should allow you to proceed with filing even with that message showing. If it doesn't let you file, then you might need to contact ESD directly.

•Thanks for the quick response! It's actually been 3 days since I got the confirmation email, and the message is still there. So just to be sure, you think I should ignore it and try filing on Sunday as planned? I'm nervous about messing something up with my claim.

I had the EXACT same problem last month!!! The stupid website kept telling me to restart my claim even tho I already did it twice!! So frustrating!! I just kept filing my weekly claims anyway and my payments started coming through after 2 weeks. ESD needs to fix there website seriously

•That's reassuring to hear your payments eventually came through! Did you have to do anything special when you filed, or did you just ignore the message and proceed with your weekly claim?

I've seen this happen frequently with claims that have a break in filing. The message is confusing because it's telling you to restart something you already restarted. Here's what I suggest: 1. Take a screenshot of your confirmation email showing you already reopened the claim 2. Proceed with filing your weekly claim on Sunday as normal 3. If the system allows you to complete the weekly claim, you're all set 4. If it doesn't let you file, you'll need to call ESD immediately on Monday The most important thing is to make sure you file your weekly claim on time, regardless of that message. The system often displays outdated prompts, but the weekly claim filing function should still work properly.

•Thank you for the detailed advice! I'll definitely take a screenshot of the confirmation email just in case. I'm hoping everything works smoothly on Sunday when I try to file.

If you're worried about getting things right with ESD, I recently discovered a service called Claimyr that can get you connected to an actual ESD agent quickly. After dealing with similar website confusion, I used them and got through to an agent in under 25 minutes instead of calling for days. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. Really helped me clear up some confusing messages on my account.

•is this legit? seems kinda sketchy to use a third party service when dealing with unemployment...

•Yes, it's completely legitimate. They don't access your ESD account or anything - they just help you get through the phone system to speak with an actual ESD agent. After that, you're dealing directly with ESD. I was skeptical too but it saved me days of frustration.

I HATE the ESD website!!! It's so buggy and confusing. Last year when I was on unemployment they told me THREE DIFFERENT THINGS in the same week. One message said my claim was denied, another said I needed to submit more documentation, and the third said I was approved! All at the same time! I spent HOURS on the phone trying to get through. The whole system needs to be completely rebuilt from scratch if you ask me.

To answer ur question from before, I just ignored the message completely and filed my weekly claim like normal. It let me do everything just fine even with that restart message still showing. The message eventually went away after like 3 weeks but my payments were coming in fine the whole time.

Just to add some clarity here - what's happening is that ESD's claim management system and their user interface don't always sync up immediately. Your claim is in the correct status in their actual database (as confirmed by your email), but the website's dashboard hasn't refreshed to show the current status. This is why you can usually still file your weekly claim successfully even when the dashboard shows incorrect prompts. If you do run into any problems filing on Sunday, call first thing Monday morning. Remember that for unemployment purposes, a week runs Sunday through Saturday, so you have until next Saturday to file this week's claim without it being considered late.

•That makes so much sense! Thank you for explaining how the systems work behind the scenes. Definitely helps me feel less anxious about the whole situation. I'll go ahead and file on Sunday as planned.

just make sure u answer all the job search questions right. they're super picky about that now in 2025. u need 3 job search activities every week and they're auditing like crazy these days

•Good reminder! Yes, I've been keeping track of my job applications already. I know they require 3 activities per week. Definitely don't want to get flagged for a job search review.

Just wanted to follow up - were you able to file your weekly claim yesterday despite the restart message still showing? This information would be helpful for others who might encounter the same issue in the future.

•Yes! Everything worked fine! The "restart claim" message was still there, but when I clicked on "file a weekly claim" it let me proceed normally. Completed the whole process without any issues. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance!
