ESD adjudication timing - 8 weeks from filing or start of adjudication?

I'm getting some mixed messages about ESD claim timelines and starting to panic a bit. Some people are saying adjudication takes about 8 weeks, but I'm confused if that's 8 weeks from when I first filed my claim or 8 weeks from when it officially entered adjudication status? My claim has been pending for 3 weeks now and my savings are almost gone. I've applied to like 30 jobs in the past month with only two interviews and no offers. Bills are piling up, and I'm stressing about making rent next month. Anyone know the actual timeline I should expect? Does calling actually help speed things up?

the 8 weeks is usually from when it enters adjudication, not from when u first file. at least thats what happened with me, took almost 3 months total from initial filing. sorry ur going thru this, its the worst

3 MONTHS?? Oh god, I can't wait that long. Did you have to keep doing the weekly claims that whole time even though you weren't getting paid?

In my experience helping claimants navigate ESD, the 8-week timeframe typically refers to the period after your claim is flagged for adjudication. The entire process from initial filing to resolution can take longer depending on your specific situation. A few things to keep in mind: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims even while in adjudication 2. Make sure your job search activities are properly documented (3 per week) 3. Check your ESD account messages daily for any requests for information 4. If they need additional documentation, provide it immediately to avoid further delays If your financial situation is critical, you might want to look into assistance programs while waiting. 211 can connect you with resources for rent assistance and other emergency support.

Thank you for the detailed response. I've been filing weekly and documenting everything carefully. I'm just worried because I only have enough for maybe another 2 weeks of expenses. I'll definitely call 211 tomorrow to see what options I have.

I had a similar problem last year and couldn't wait for ESD to process my claim. I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me actually reach an ESD agent instead of getting disconnected. They have a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I got through to an actual person, they were able to tell me what was holding up my claim and I got it resolved within a week. Sometimes just getting someone on the phone makes all the difference.

is this legit? seems kinda sketch to pay someone just to make a phone call for you...has anyone else used this?

I used Claimyr when I was desperate after 5 weeks of nothing. It worked for getting through to ESD, but didn't magically fix my claim issues. The agent I spoke with was helpful, but still had to follow their process. Did give me peace of mind knowing exactly what was happening though.

THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!! They WANT you to struggle so you'll take ANY job no matter how terrible the pay or conditions are. I waited TEN WEEKS and then got DENIED for some BS reason about my employer disputing my hours. Had to appeal and wait ANOTHER 8 weeks before I finally got approved. ESD is deliberately understaffed and the legislators don't care because their corporate donors want desperate workers!!!!

Dude, not everything is a conspiracy. ESD is just understaffed and overwhelmed. My claim went through in 4 weeks with no issues.

Have you checked to see if your claim says "adjudication in progress" or just "pending"? Those are different statuses. Also I think they might be prioritizing claims based on how bad your financial situation is but I'm not 100% sure about that.

It says "adjudication in progress" when I log into my eServices account. I didn't know they might prioritize based on financial hardship - is there a way to let them know about that? Would calling help?

ESD doesn't officially prioritize based on financial hardship, but they do have hardship procedures for certain situations. If you're facing imminent eviction or utility shutoff, it's worth mentioning when you speak with an agent. Document everything and have dates/notices ready when you call.

Thanks for the insider info! I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow. Hopefully I can get through to someone who can help.

I went through adjudication last year and here's what I learned: The 8-week estimate is from when you enter adjudication, not from initial filing. However, this isn't a hard rule - I've seen claims resolved in 3 weeks and others take 12+ weeks. My recommendations: 1. Call ESD at least twice a week - persistence matters 2. Be prepared with all your documentation when you do reach someone 3. Check if your former employer is contesting anything (this is often the delay) 4. Contact your state representative if you're approaching 8+ weeks As for your job search - have you tried connecting with WorkSource? They can help with your resume and connect you with employers who are actually hiring. Their job search workshops also count toward your weekly activities.

This is really helpful info, thank you! I hadn't thought about contacting my state rep, but I'll definitely do that if it goes much longer. I've been using WorkSource job listings but haven't attended any of their workshops yet - I'll look into signing up for one this week.

just wondering, did u get laid off or quit? cause that makes a huge difference in how long adjudication takes

I was laid off - my entire department was eliminated in a restructuring. I uploaded the layoff letter to my ESD account documents section. Maybe that will help speed things up?

yea that should help, layoffs usually go thru faster than quits or firings. but still the esdis crazy slow right now

I'm going through something similar right now - been in adjudication for 5 weeks and getting really anxious about finances. One thing that helped me was calling the ESD customer service line early in the morning (around 8:15am) and asking specifically about my case status. The agent was able to tell me that my former employer hadn't responded to their inquiry yet, which at least gave me some clarity on why it was taking so long. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you're checking your ESD messages every single day. Sometimes they'll request additional info and if you miss it, that can add weeks to the process. I almost missed a request for my separation paperwork because it got buried in my account. Hang in there - I know the financial stress is overwhelming but you're doing everything right by continuing to file weekly and job search. Have you looked into food banks in your area? That helped me stretch my budget while waiting.

Thanks for sharing your experience - it's oddly comforting to know I'm not the only one going through this nightmare right now. I've been calling but keep getting the busy signal or disconnected. Maybe I need to try calling even earlier? And yes, I've been obsessively checking my messages multiple times a day because I'm so paranoid about missing something important. The food bank idea is actually really smart - I hadn't thought of that but it would definitely help me stretch what little I have left. Did your employer eventually respond or did ESD just move forward without them?
