ESD adjudication status changing daily - normal or problem?

I've been stuck in adjudication for almost 5 weeks now, but something weird is happening. For the past two days, my online status in eServices has been updating/changing daily but still says 'Adjudication in progress.' Yesterday it changed from 'awaiting documents' to 'under review' and today it shows 'pending decision.' Is this actually progress or just their system glitching? Has anyone else seen their status change multiple times while still technically in adjudication? I'm getting really nervous because my savings are almost gone and my last employer is fighting my claim over attendance issues (I had documented medical appointments they knew about).

those status changes are actually a good sign!! when mine started changing it meant someone was finally looking at my claim. took about 3 days after the changing started before it got approved

That's a relief to hear! Did you get all your back payments at once or did they stagger them?

Status changes typically indicate your claim is actively being worked on by an adjudicator. Each status represents a different stage in the review process: 'awaiting documents' means they're gathering evidence, 'under review' means they're evaluating the information, and 'pending decision' means they're preparing to make a determination. This progression is actually normal and suggests your claim is moving forward, not stuck. Keep checking daily and make sure you've submitted all requested documentation. If you haven't already, upload any medical documentation that supports your attendance issues - this could significantly help your case.

Thank you! I uploaded my medical notes last week. So does 'pending decision' usually mean they're almost done? I'm hoping I don't have to wait much longer.

Yes, 'pending decision' is typically one of the final stages before a determination is made. While I can't guarantee a specific timeline, many claims are resolved within 3-7 days after reaching this status. Keep filing your weekly claims during this time to ensure you don't miss any potential benefits.

I had the EXACT same thing happen last month!!! My status kept changing for 4 days straight but still said adjudication. I got super confused and tried calling but couldn't get through (surprise surprise). Then on day 5, it suddenly changed to approved and all my weeks processed at once. I think when the status changes like that it means different people are handling different parts of your claim or they're moving it through some kind of review process. Good luck!!!

That's exactly what I needed to hear! I've been panicking thinking something was wrong. Did you have to appeal or was it just approved automatically?

Mine was approved automatically, no appeal needed. But I know my former employer didn't contest anything so that probably made it easier. Since your employer is fighting it, might take a bit longer but the changing statuses are definitely a good sign things are moving!

ESD system is always glitching lol. Wouldn't trust any of it. Call them directly if u want real answers.

I've tried calling so many times but can't get through. The recorded message just says they're experiencing high call volume and then it hangs up. So frustrating!

After weeks of trying to get through to ESD on the phone without success, I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an ESD agent in about 15 minutes. They basically keep dialing for you and then call you when they get through. It saved me so much time and frustration! I was able to ask about my changing adjudication status and get a clear answer about my timeline. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Seriously, it was worth it to finally talk to a real person.

Thanks for the tip! I might try that if I don't see a decision in the next couple days. Did they tell you anything useful about the changing statuses when you got through?

Yes! The agent explained that the changing statuses meant my claim was being actively processed. She could see exactly who was working on it and what stage it was at. Gave me a much better timeline than just guessing. The peace of mind was definitely worth it.

I work in HR and deal with unemployment claims from the employer side. Those status changes are 100% normal and actually a GOOD sign. When a claim sits with no status changes for weeks, that's when you should worry. The system updates as different stages of adjudication are completed. 'Pending decision' usually means they're in the final review stages. Just be aware that if your employer is contesting based on attendance, you'll need to clearly establish that your absences were for medical reasons that were properly documented and communicated. If you have doctor's notes and evidence you notified your employer, make sure that's all been submitted to ESD.

This is so helpful! I do have documentation of everything - doctor's notes, emails to my supervisor before appointments, even HR acknowledgment emails. I submitted all of that with my initial claim. Fingers crossed they rule in my favor.

my claim did that too but then it went back to the beginning and i had to redo everything. the whole system is designed to make ppl give up. i was in adjudication for 11 WEEKS before finally getting approved. its all about how persistent u are. keep calling every single day!!!

Oh no, that sounds like a nightmare! Did you ever figure out why it reset? I'm worried that might happen to me now.

nope they never explained it. just said 'system issue' when i finally got through. but it only reset once, then it eventually got approved. just be prepared for a long wait and keep filing your weekly claims no matter what

One more tip - while those status changes are typically positive signs, it's also a good time to check your correspondence in eServices. Sometimes they'll request additional information while the status is changing, and those notices can be easy to miss. Make sure you're checking both your dashboard AND your correspondence/letters section daily.

That's good advice! I just checked and there are no new messages or requests. I'll keep monitoring both sections daily.
