Does ESD notify my employer every weekly claim or just initially?
I just filed for unemployment after my hours got cut from 40 to 15 at the restaurant I work at. My manager already knows I filed initially (and was actually supportive), but I'm worried about them getting weekly notices when I claim. I don't want to seem like I'm constantly reminding them that I'm on partial unemployment. Does ESD contact employers for EVERY weekly claim, or just when you first apply? I've heard different things from coworkers and now I'm anxious about it.

ESD only notifies your employer when you first file your initial claim. They don't send weekly notifications for your continued claims. Your employer does get quarterly charge statements showing their UI account charges, but those aren't weekly and don't arrive after each individual claim you file.

•Thank you SO much! That's a huge relief. My anxiety was getting the best of me thinking my boss was getting weekly reminders about my situation.

what everyone else said + make sure ur reporting ur partial wages correctly each week. if u mess that up and collect too much, both u AND ur employer will definitely hear about it later! happened to my roomate and it was a nightmare to fix

•Oh no, I didn't even think about that! Do you know if I need to report my tips too or just my hourly wages from my pay stub?

The initial information is correct - employers only get notified at the start of your claim. However, I want to address your follow-up question about tips: YES, you absolutely must report ALL income including tips. ESD considers tips as income and failing to report them could result in an overpayment situation later. Be sure to keep detailed records of both your hourly wages and tips each week.

I've been through this EXACT situation before. Your employer only gets notified initially, BUT they can log into their ESD employer account anytime to see details about their UI charges. Most small business managers don't bother checking this regularly tho unless they're disputing something. BTW if you're having trouble actually reaching ESD with questions (I always did), I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to a real ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. Honestly was worth it when I needed to fix an issue with my partial unemployment.

•I tried calling ESD 23 times last month about my partial unemployment!!! Never could get through. Is this Claimyr thing legit? Sounds too good to be true tbh

It's legit. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for a week straight. They basically keep dialing for you using their system until they get through, then connect you. Saved me hours of frustration.

•I've used Claimyr twice. It works but you still need to be prepared with your questions and have all your info ready because ESD agents don't give you much time once you get through.

everybody is right abt the notification thing but in my experience my boss DID know when i was claiming because he had to fill out some form about my reduced hours. maybe it depends on the employer? idk the whole system is confusing af

•That's a common misunderstanding. What likely happened is your employer received a quarterly statement or was asked to verify your reported hours at some point, not weekly notifications. Small employers especially might not understand the difference and mistakenly believe they're being notified about each weekly claim.

To clarify the partial unemployment situation further - when you file weekly claims with reduced hours, make sure you're answering the question about whether you worked during that week correctly. You'll need to report the exact hours worked and gross earnings (before deductions) for each week. The system will then calculate your partial benefit amount. Just be consistent and accurate to avoid issues down the road.

•Thanks for the detailed explanation! Our schedule changes week to week, so some weeks I might get more hours than others. I'm guessing I just report whatever I actually worked each specific week?

Exactly! Report exactly what you worked each specific week, even if it varies. ESD understands that hours can fluctuate, especially in restaurant work. Just be accurate and report your hours and earnings for the specific week you're claiming for.
