Can't get through to ESD by phone - constant busy signals since the system update
Has anyone else been getting constant busy signals when trying to call ESD since they updated their phone system last week? I've been trying every day this week, sometimes calling 20+ times a day, and I ALWAYS get the same automated message saying they're experiencing high call volume. My claim has been stuck in adjudication for almost 5 weeks now and I'm getting really worried because my standby status is about to expire and I need to talk to someone before I run out of money. I tried the online message center too but haven't gotten any response in 10 days. I'm getting desperate - does anyone know a trick to getting through to an actual person?

Yep, it's a nightmare right now. I think they're completely overwhelmed with the seasonal construction layoffs plus that system update they did made everything worse. I was in the same boat last month and finally got through by calling exactly at 7:59am, right before they officially open. Somehow that worked for me after trying for 2 weeks straight!

•Thanks for the tip! I'll try calling right before they open tomorrow. Did you have to do anything special when the automated system answered?

•I've been dealing with ESD for years (unfortunately) and January-February is always their busiest time. If your benefits are on hold, make sure you keep filing your weekly claims anyway, even if you're not getting paid. Once they resolve whatever issue is holding things up, they'll release all the payments at once, but only if you've been filing consistently.

I had the same problem with my adjudication for 6 weeks. Here's what actually worked for me after dozens of failed calls: 1. Make sure you're calling the right number (800-318-6022) 2. Call precisely when they open (8:00 am) 3. If that fails, try calling between 3:30-4:00pm when call volume sometimes drops 4. Always select the option for "claim questions" not "filing a new claim" 5. Have your claimant ID ready so you don't waste time if you get through Also, don't forget that if your standby status is expiring, you need to start doing your job search activities (3 per week) and documenting them in your weekly claim. Don't wait for them to resolve your adjudication issue.

•This is really helpful! I didn't realize the time of day made such a difference. I've been trying mid-morning which is probably the worst time. And thanks for the reminder about job search activities. I've been so focused on this adjudication that I almost forgot I'll need to start doing those soon.

After spending literally WEEKS trying to get through on the phone for my identity verification issue, I finally found Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me through to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. It was worth every penny after all the stress and wasted time. Check out their demo video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The ESD agent was able to clear my adjudication issue right away once I finally got through. Just having a real person look at my claim made all the difference.

Honestly ESD's phone system is just broken. My neighbor works for DSHS and she says all state agencies are having major staffing issues right now. Did you try contacting your state representative? That worked for me when I had an adjudication that went on for 2 months with no resolution. Just Google "WA state representative lookup" and you can find who represents your district. Their office can sometimes expedite things.

•I never thought about contacting my state rep! That's a great idea if I can't get through this week. I'll look mine up right now. Thanks!

By the way, make sure you're documenting EVERYTHING. When you called, who you talked to (if you get through), what they told you, etc. If your claim gets denied because of the adjudication, you might need to appeal, and having detailed records will help tremendously. I learned this the hard way.

UPDATE: I finally got through! Used the 7:59am trick AND I called on Thursday which seems to be less busy than Monday/Tuesday. The agent cleared up my adjudication issue in about 10 minutes - it was just a verification problem they needed to fix on their end. My standby status was also extended for another 4 weeks. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

•Great news! And thanks for updating the thread - it's helpful for others to see what worked. Make sure you check your ESD account in a couple of days to verify everything is processing correctly.
