Filing immediately is definitely the right move. I waited a few days when I got laid off thinking I needed to organize everything first, and I regretted it. The sooner you get in the system the better.
Hope everything works out for you. Being unemployed is stressful enough without having to worry about whether you'll qualify for benefits. File today and take it one step at a time.
The job search requirements are something to keep in mind too. Even if you're working part-time, you still need to be actively looking for work and document your job search activities.
Just be prepared for the system to be slow and frustrating. I qualified easily but it took forever to actually get my first payment. Don't let it discourage you though - you deserve the benefits if you meet the requirements.
final thought - even if you think your case is hopeless, file anyway. ive seen people get approved in situations where they thought they had no chance. washington esd looks at each case individually
one last thing about getting through to washington esd - if you cant reach them by phone and need to talk to someone about your case, that claimyr service mentioned earlier really does work. saved me weeks of frustration
Make sure to file your weekly claims every week even if you think you might not qualify that week. Missing a week can cause problems and you can't usually go back and file it later.
Just want to add that your benefit amount is based on wages from a specific time period called your base year, not necessarily your most recent wages. If you just started a new job before getting laid off, those wages might not count yet.

The garnishment shows up as a deduction on your Washington ESD payment summary. Mine says 'CS ENFORCEMENT' or something like that. Makes it real clear where your money went.

•Do they send you any paperwork about the garnishment or just start taking the money?

•I got a notice from DCS but Washington ESD doesn't really explain it. The deduction just appears on your payment.

This thread is depressing but helpful. At least now I know what to expect. Gonna try to get ahead of this and see if I can work out something with DCS before they start taking half my benefits.

•Same here. Better to know now than be surprised when the first payment is short.

•Smart approach. Even if you can't stop it, at least you can budget for it.
