For anyone still struggling to get their 1099-G or having other issues with Washington ESD, I had great success with Claimyr when I needed to resolve a problem with my account. They got me connected to an actual person who could help instead of dealing with the automated system. Just wanted to mention it since so many people seem to have trouble getting through to ESD on their own.
Well this has been an eye-opening thread. I thought I was all set with my taxes but now I realize I need to hunt down my unemployment documents. Better late than never I guess!
You also need to be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S. They'll verify your work authorization as part of the eligibility process.
If you have any questions about whether your specific situation qualifies, it's worth calling Washington ESD or using one of those callback services. Better to know upfront than file and get denied later.
Just want to add that even if you get disqualified initially, it's not necessarily permanent. If you can show that you've addressed whatever led to your termination, you might qualify for benefits from a future job. Don't let one bad experience define your whole unemployment experience.
Update us on how it goes! I'm sure others in similar situations would benefit from hearing about your experience with the process.
To summarize for the OP: Unemployment is temporary income replacement you've already paid for through taxes. Apply online ASAP, be honest about everything, keep detailed job search records, and file your weekly claims on time. You've got this!
Final update: I submitted my application this morning and it went through smoothly. Now I just wait to hear back. Thanks again everyone for all the help and advice!
Excellent! Remember to file your first weekly claim this weekend even if you haven't heard back about approval yet.
And save that Claimyr link just in case you need to contact them later!

Military discharge status can affect eligibility for veterans. Dishonorable discharge can impact your ability to get unemployment benefits in some situations.

•I thought veterans had special protections for unemployment benefits?

•Veterans do have some special protections and programs, but discharge status can still be a factor in eligibility determinations. Check with Washington ESD about veteran-specific programs.

Labor disputes and strikes can disqualify you. If you're out of work due to a labor dispute at your workplace, you typically can't collect unemployment benefits.

•What if the strike ends and you're not called back to work? Can you get benefits then?

•Once the labor dispute is resolved, you might be able to qualify for benefits if you're not recalled to work. But during the actual dispute, you're generally not eligible.
