oh and one more thing - make sure you file as soon as possible after your hours get cut. there's no waiting period in washington but you can't backdate benefits very far. the sooner you file the better
For anyone still having trouble getting through to Washington ESD for eligibility questions, I used Claimyr recently and they were able to connect me to an agent who walked me through the whole process. Really took the guesswork out of whether I qualified or not.
That's the third person who's mentioned them. Must be legit if multiple people are having success with it.
yeah i'm definitely going to try claimyr if i can't get through the regular way. this whole process is stressful enough without adding phone tag to it
Washington ESD also requires you to register with WorkSource and actively search for work while collecting benefits. Just something to keep in mind if you ever need to file.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread! Really comprehensive information that I'm sure will help lots of people understand UI eligibility better.
Definitely! And remember, if you ever need to actually speak with Washington ESD about your specific situation, Claimyr can help you get through to them without the usual phone tree nightmare.
I tried calling Washington ESD multiple times last month to ask about my eligibility after being terminated. Kept getting busy signals or would wait on hold for 2+ hours just to get disconnected. Finally used Claimyr to get through and was able to speak with someone in about 10 minutes. Definitely worth it if you need to talk to an actual person at ESD.
I'm in the same boat trying to reach ESD. How much does Claimyr cost?
The bottom line is that most people who get fired for performance reasons qualify for unemployment. It's really only the serious misconduct cases that get denied. Don't let your employer scare you into thinking you can't file - let Washington ESD make that determination.
Just want to add that if you're unsure about your eligibility, it's better to file and let Washington ESD determine if you qualify rather than not filing at all. The worst they can do is deny your claim, but at least you'll know for sure.
One thing to keep in mind is that once you start receiving benefits, you have to file weekly claims and meet all the requirements. It's not just a one-time thing. You have to actively look for work and report your job search activities.

One last piece of advice - if you do get approved, remember that you'll need to actively search for work and report your job search activities. Washington ESD has specific requirements about how many employers you need to contact each week.

•How many job contacts do you need to make per week?

•I believe it's 3 job search activities per week, but check the current requirements when you file. They can change.

Good luck with your claim! Sounds like you have a strong case based on what you've described. The childcare situation definitely works in your favor.
