Going to echo what others said about keeping good records. Also screenshot your weekly claim confirmations - I've had the system glitch and lose my filed claims before.
Last thing - if you find work again quickly, you still need to report it properly when you file your weekly claims. Don't just stop filing without going through the proper process.
One more thing - if you get disqualified for any reason, you can appeal the decision. Don't just give up if they deny your claim initially.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! I feel much more prepared to navigate this process now. Appreciate all the tips and advice.
The weekly certification system has definitely improved over the years but it's still not perfect. Just be patient with the technology and make sure you have all your information ready before you start filing.

The system is designed to help people who lose their jobs through no fault of their own, which includes most terminations for performance. Don't let your employer scare you into not filing - that's exactly what they want.

•So true. My boss actually told me I 'probably wouldn't qualify' when they fired me. Total BS.

•They say that hoping you won't file and cost them money on their unemployment insurance. File anyway!

One more tip - when you're filing your weekly claims, be completely honest about any work you do or money you earn. Even small amounts need to be reported. Washington ESD will find out eventually if you don't report it.

•What if I do some freelance work while collecting? Do I need to report that too?

•Yes, absolutely. Any income needs to be reported on your weekly claim. It might reduce your benefit amount but it won't disqualify you completely.
