One more tip - make sure you're checking your account regularly and responding to any requests for information immediately. Sometimes Washington ESD will send you a message asking for clarification on something, and if you don't respond quickly, your claim can get stuck in limbo for weeks.
I actually used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier when my claim seemed to be stuck after 4 weeks. Turns out there was a flag on my account because my previous employer had reported my termination date wrong by one day. The agent was able to fix it immediately once I explained the situation. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person to get these things resolved.
Final update from me - just wanted to confirm that my overpayment was officially reduced from $3,400 to $1,200 after I was able to speak with someone at Washington ESD through Claimyr. They found calculation errors in their system. Definitely worth exploring that option if you're stuck in phone limbo like I was.
Bottom line - yes they will take your tax refund and there's not much you can do to stop it once the process starts. But if you think the overpayment is wrong, you absolutely should appeal it. Even if it takes months, it's better than paying money you don't actually owe
One more thing to remember - if Washington ESD denies your initial claim, you can appeal within 30 days. Don't give up if you get a denial letter, especially if you think you were wrongfully terminated.
Good to know about the appeal option. Hopefully it won't come to that but at least I have a backup plan.
And if you need help during the appeal process, that's another time when Claimyr can be really helpful for getting through to talk to someone at Washington ESD about your case.
just file the claim already! worst case scenario they say no and you're in the same position you're in now. best case you get benefits while you look for a new job

The key is to be patient and persistent. The system isn't perfect but it does work for most people. Don't let the negative stories online scare you from applying for benefits you're entitled to receive.

Just want to add that if you run into problems with adjudication or getting your claim processed, don't wait months hoping it resolves itself. Get help early, whether that's calling Washington ESD directly or using a service like Claimyr to help you get through to someone who can fix the issue.

•I'll definitely keep that in mind. Hopefully I won't need it but good to know the option exists.

•Exactly. Most people don't need extra help, but when you do need it, you really need it. Having a backup plan never hurts.
