Bottom line is unemployment insurance is exactly that - insurance for when you lose work. In Washington it covers partial unemployment too which is great for situations like yours. Don't feel bad about using a program you've contributed to through your work history.
Good luck with your application! The fact that you're asking questions and trying to understand the process shows you'll do fine. Most people who have issues with unemployment claims are the ones who don't bother reading instructions or understanding the requirements.
This whole thread has been really helpful. I'm bookmarking it in case I ever need to reference this info. Hope nobody here actually needs to use unemployment anytime soon!
Just to add one more thing - make sure your employer isn't contesting your claim if you do file. That can really slow down the process and complicate things.
Washington ESD will usually notify you if there's a dispute about your eligibility. That's often what triggers the adjudication process that some people mentioned earlier.
Really glad you asked about this instead of just ignoring your concerns. Too many people stick their head in the sand with potential identity theft and it always makes things worse in the long run.
One last tip - read all the instructions carefully and answer every question completely. Incomplete applications get delayed while they ask for missing information.

Just file and see what happens honestly. The worst they can do is say no, and if you think you qualify then you probably do. The application process will walk you through everything step by step.

•Yeah I think I'm overthinking it. I'll just gather my documents and file this week. Thanks everyone for all the helpful info!

•Good luck! Remember to file your weekly claims every week even if your initial claim is still being processed. Don't let those weeks go by without filing or you might lose them.

The system has definitely improved since the pandemic chaos but there are still delays sometimes. Just be patient and keep following up if you don't hear anything for a while. Most people do get approved if they legitimately qualify.

•Yeah don't stress too much about it. The hardest part is usually just getting started with the application.
