The work search requirement trips up a lot of people. You need to make at least 3 job search contacts per week and keep detailed records. Even if you're on temporary layoff, you still need to search unless you have a specific return date within 4 weeks.
Just want to add that if you do get denied initially, you can appeal the decision. Sometimes the first adjudicator gets it wrong or doesn't have all the information. The appeals process gives you another chance to present your case.
Update us when you hear back OP! Always curious how these cases turn out, especially when safety concerns are involved. Sounds like you have a strong case based on what everyone's saying here.
Washington ESD also has workshops and job search resources available. Worth checking out even if you're not required to use them yet.
The 26 week thing is firm - I learned that the hard way. No exceptions, no extensions currently available. Plan accordingly and maybe start looking into food banks and other assistance programs if you're getting close to the limit without job prospects.
I exhausted my benefits last month and it's been really tough. Started driving for rideshare apps to make ends meet. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up to really start preparing before you hit that 26-week mark.

One more thing - if you do get approved, make sure you understand the weekly claim filing requirements. You have to certify every week that you're able and available for work and actively searching. Missing a weekly claim can cause payment delays.

•You can usually file late weekly claims but it may delay payment. Better to set a reminder and file on time every week.

•I use the Washington ESD mobile app - sends notifications when it's time to file your weekly claim.

Bottom line: being fired doesn't automatically disqualify you from unemployment in Washington. The misconduct standard is pretty specific and requires willful violation of company policy after clear warnings. File your claim, be honest about what happened, and let them investigate. You might be surprised by the outcome!
