How long after Washington ESD unemployment payment is released does it actually hit your account?
My weekly claim was processed two days ago and shows 'payment released' on my Washington ESD account, but I still don't see the money in my bank account. This is my first time getting unemployment benefits and I'm not sure what's normal. How long does it usually take after Washington ESD releases the payment for it to actually show up? I'm using direct deposit with Wells Fargo if that matters.

Usually takes 1-2 business days after Washington ESD shows 'payment released' for direct deposit. Since you filed recently, it might take a little longer for the first payment while they verify your banking info.

•Thanks! I was starting to worry something went wrong. Good to know it's normal for the first one to take longer.

•yeah my first payment took 3 days but after that it was always next day

With Wells Fargo specifically, I've noticed they sometimes hold unemployment payments an extra day compared to other banks. If it's been more than 3 business days since 'payment released' showed up, then I'd start to worry.

•It's only been 2 days so I'll wait one more day before panicking. Appreciate the heads up about Wells Fargo being slower.

•Wells Fargo is the worst for this stuff. I switched to a credit union and now my payments come the next morning after Washington ESD releases them.

I had issues getting through to Washington ESD when my payment was delayed once. Ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to an actual agent who could check what was going on. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Way easier than sitting on hold for hours.

•Never heard of that service before. Did they actually help resolve your payment issue?

•Yeah, turned out there was a flag on my account that needed to be cleared manually. The agent fixed it while I was on the phone and my payment came through the next day.

•Good to know there's an option if I need to talk to someone. The regular Washington ESD phone line is impossible to get through on.

WAIT - make sure you're looking at the right date! Washington ESD shows when they SEND the payment, not when your bank receives it. The actual deposit date is usually 1-2 days after the 'payment released' date.

•Oh! That makes sense. I was thinking payment released meant it was already in my account. Thanks for clarifying that.

•Good point - a lot of people get confused by that timing difference.

depends on your bank tbh. mine comes next day every time but my friend with chase says it takes 2-3 days

•Chase is terrible for everything banking related lol

•I have Chase and usually get my UI payments the next business day after Washington ESD releases them. Maybe depends on your account type?

Pro tip: Washington ESD typically releases payments on Tuesday evenings for most people. So if you certified on Sunday, you'll see 'payment released' Tuesday night and the money Wednesday or Thursday depending on your bank.

•This is super helpful timing info. I never knew they had a specific day they release payments.

Chloe Robinson
•That matches exactly what happened to me - certified Sunday, saw payment released Tuesday night.

•Unless there's a holiday that week, then everything gets pushed back a day or two.

I've been on unemployment for 8 months and payment timing has been super consistent. Washington ESD releases Tuesday/Wednesday, I get it Wednesday/Thursday. Only time it was different was when my claim went into adjudication.

Chloe Robinson
•What happens during adjudication? Do payments just stop completely?

Yuki Kobayashi
•Yeah, no payments at all until adjudication is resolved. Mine took 3 weeks and then I got all the back payments at once.

•Adjudication is the worst part of this whole process. Glad your claim got approved eventually.

Check your Washington ESD payment history page - it shows both the 'payment released' date AND the expected deposit date. That might give you a better idea of when to expect it.

•I didn't know there was an expected deposit date shown! I'll look for that on my account.

•It's in the payment details section when you click on the specific payment amount.

Been dealing with Washington ESD for over a year now due to various employment issues. Payment timing is one of the few things they're actually consistent about. 1-2 business days after 'payment released' is the norm.

•What other issues have you had with Washington ESD? I'm worried about running into problems later.

•Mostly job search requirement confusion and one overpayment notice that turned out to be an error on their end. The payment timing though has never been an issue.

my credit union gets washington esd payments same day they release them but i think thats unusual

•Which credit union? I might need to switch banks if mine keeps being slow with deposits.

•BECU - they process ACH transfers really fast compared to big banks

I had a payment get stuck for a week once and had to call Washington ESD to find out what happened. Used that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked - got through to an agent in like 10 minutes instead of waiting hours.

•What was causing your payment to be stuck? I want to watch out for that.

•Turned out my employer had disputed my claim without telling me, so Washington ESD put a hold on payments while they investigated. The agent was able to explain what was happening and what I needed to do.

First time claimants should know that your first payment might take longer than usual - sometimes up to a week. After that it's much more predictable.

•This is exactly what I needed to hear. I was getting really anxious about the timing.

•Yeah they do extra verification on first payments to make sure everything is set up correctly.

Make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your Washington ESD account. I had a typo in my routing number and it took 2 weeks to figure out why my payments weren't coming.

•Good point - I double checked and everything looks correct on my end.

•Had to update it in my account and then call Washington ESD to reprocess the failed payments. Took another week after that.

Washington ESD payment timing: Released Tuesday night = money Wednesday/Thursday. Released Wednesday night = money Thursday/Friday. It's pretty consistent once you know the pattern.

•This is really helpful - I wish Washington ESD explained this timing better on their website.

Just want to add that weekends don't count as business days for bank processing. So if Washington ESD releases payment on Friday, you won't see it until Monday or Tuesday.

Chloe Robinson
•Makes sense - I need to keep track of business days vs regular days.

•Holidays also mess up the timing. Memorial Day week everything was delayed by a day.

Been unemployed since October and Washington ESD payment timing has been the least of my worries honestly. Job search requirements and keeping up with all the paperwork is way more stressful.

•Tell me about it - tracking 3 job contacts per week and keeping detailed records is exhausting.

•At least the payment part is automated once you get the hang of weekly claims. The job search stuff requires constant attention.

For anyone still having issues reaching Washington ESD agents about payment problems, I second the recommendation for Claimyr. It's way better than trying to call during their busy hours. Saved me so much frustration.

•How much does something like that cost? Is it worth it for just checking on a payment?

•For me it was worth it because I was stressed about bills and needed answers fast. Check their site for current info - claimyr.com

This thread is really helpful for new claimants. Washington ESD should put this timing info somewhere obvious on their website instead of making people guess.

•Agreed - their website has so much information but not the practical stuff people actually need to know.
