One thing nobody mentioned - if you have any questions after filing your initial claim, definitely try calling Washington ESD. But like others said, it's almost impossible to get through. I spent literally days trying to reach someone before I discovered that Claimyr service. Game changer for actually talking to a real person at Washington ESD.
I tried calling for two weeks straight and never got through. Wish I'd known about Claimyr earlier.
Good luck with everything! The first time is always scary but once you get your first payment and get into the routine of weekly claims, it becomes pretty automatic. Just stay on top of your job search requirements and you'll be fine.
Don't forget that you need to meet the monetary eligibility requirements too. Just because you can get the maximum weekly amount doesn't mean you automatically qualify if you haven't worked long enough or earned enough total wages.
The whole benefit calculation system is pretty complex. I'm glad Washington state has decent maximums compared to other places, but I wish the process was more transparent and easier to understand.
Does anyone know if they consider your education level when determining suitable work? Like if you have a degree, can you turn down jobs that don't require one?
Bottom line - document everything, be honest in your weekly claims, and don't stress too much about one job refusal if you have valid reasons.
Important reminder: even though your first week is the waiting week with no payment, you still need to file that weekly claim! Don't skip it thinking it doesn't matter.
The waiting week thing confused me too when I first filed. Once you understand it's automatic and you don't need to do anything special, it makes more sense. Just keep filing your weekly claims and the payments will start after that first week.

Bottom line: file your claim, be honest about what happened, keep good records, and don't get discouraged by the process. Most people in your situation do end up getting benefits eventually.

•Thank you everyone for all the advice and encouragement. I feel much more confident about filing now. Going to get started on the application right away.

Good luck with your claim! Remember to keep filing those weekly claims even during adjudication. The worst part is the waiting, but it usually works out if you were genuinely trying to do right by your employer.
