Update on my situation - I finally got through to someone at Washington ESD using that Claimyr service and they explained that my case is still under review. At least now I know what's happening instead of just waiting and wondering. The agent said I should hear something within the next week.
That's great that you got through! I'm definitely going to try Claimyr if I can't get through on my own. Did they charge you a lot?
Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice! I'm feeling much more confident about filing my claim now. Going to gather all my documents and apply online today. Will update you all on how it goes.
Keep us posted on your progress. And remember, if you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD directly, don't hesitate to use that Claimyr service if the regular phone lines aren't working.
Just remember that even if you qualify initially, Washington ESD might put your claim in adjudication if there are any questions about your separation or work history. Don't panic if that happens - it's pretty common.
Bottom line - you've worked 8 months and were laid off, you almost certainly qualify for unemployment benefits in Washington. The base period requirements are pretty reasonable and designed to help people who've been working.
The good news is once you get that first payment, the rest usually come on schedule. It's just that initial processing time that's unpredictable. Hang in there - it will come through.
UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know my payment finally came through this morning! Took exactly 12 business days from my first weekly claim filing. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and advice. For anyone still waiting - don't give up, it does eventually come through!
Just want to add that if you're worried about running out of benefits, make sure you're keeping good records of your job search activities. Washington ESD can ask for proof at any time.

Just want to add that partial unemployment really helped me when my hours got cut. Don't let people discourage you - even if the amount isn't huge, every little bit helps when you're struggling.

One more thing - make sure you keep track of your work hours and earnings. Washington ESD might ask for verification later, especially if your hours vary week to week.

•Screenshots of your work schedule and copies of paystubs are your best friends when dealing with unemployment claims.
