The good news is that $844 per week is pretty decent for unemployment benefits in Washington. Some states are way lower. Just make sure you're meeting all the requirements to keep getting it.
Has anyone had success negotiating with employers for severance that doesn't affect unemployment benefits? I'm wondering if there's a way to structure it properly.
That's what I was thinking. I might need to talk to someone at Washington ESD about how my severance will impact my benefits.
Good luck getting through to them! That's exactly the kind of question I needed Claimyr's help with because it's too complex to figure out from their website alone.
The key thing is that Washington ESD has to prove you committed misconduct, not the other way around. Being occasionally late isn't necessarily misconduct unless it was excessive or you ignored direct warnings to improve.
One thing nobody mentioned - if you have any questions after filing your initial claim, definitely try calling Washington ESD. But like others said, it's almost impossible to get through. I spent literally days trying to reach someone before I discovered that Claimyr service. Game changer for actually talking to a real person at Washington ESD.
I tried calling for two weeks straight and never got through. Wish I'd known about Claimyr earlier.
Good luck with everything! The first time is always scary but once you get your first payment and get into the routine of weekly claims, it becomes pretty automatic. Just stay on top of your job search requirements and you'll be fine.
good luck with everything! applying for unemployment can feel overwhelming at first but you've got this. and hey, at least you know you qualify now
Final reminder: after you file your initial claim, you'll need to file weekly claims every week to keep receiving benefits. Set a reminder on your phone so you don't forget - missed weeks can't be made up later.

Same thing happened to me last year. The determination letter came like 2 weeks after I could already see my benefit amount and start filing weekly claims. Washington ESD's timing on notifications is all over the place.

•Yeah the paper mail is super slow. Always check your online account first for the most current information.

If you're still unsure, look at your payment history section too. Even if you haven't been paid yet, approved claims will show pending payments or at least show the weeks you're eligible for benefits.

•Great point, I can see pending payment for last week in my payment history. That's definitely confirmation I'm approved.
