This is all really helpful information. I was so worried about the whole process but it sounds more manageable than I thought. Still nervous about filing but at least I have a better idea of what to expect.
Just wanted to add that if you're unsure about your eligibility or benefit amount, you can always file and let Washington ESD make the determination. It's better to file and potentially be denied than to not file at all and miss out on benefits you were entitled to.
One more thing - if you end up needing to appeal any decisions about your benefits, don't wait. You only have 30 days to appeal most Washington ESD decisions. I learned that the hard way when I got a disqualification notice I disagreed with.
Overall the Washington unemployment system is pretty decent compared to other states I've heard about. The benefits last longer and the amounts are usually reasonable. Just be prepared for some bureaucracy and make sure you follow all the rules for weekly claims and job search.
Still waiting for mine after 12 days. Starting to get worried. Should I call KeyBank or Washington ESD first?
I'd try Washington ESD first since they're the ones who initiate the card being sent. If you can't get through, that Claimyr service might help you reach someone faster.
my sister works part time and got unemployment when her hours got cut way back, so definitely possible for part timers
The eligibility requirements aren't that complicated once you understand them. The hard part is actually getting through the application and approval process without any hiccups. Good luck!

One last thought - if your back injury is work-related, you might also want to look into workers' compensation. That could be another source of income while you're waiting for disability to process.

•Might still be worth checking into. Workers' comp can sometimes cover injuries that develop or worsen after you leave the job.

•Definitely worth exploring. Workers' comp, unemployment, and SSDI all have different rules and timelines.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I think I'm going to try to get through to Washington ESD first to ask about putting my claim on standby, then talk to a disability lawyer about the SSDI application. I'll also look into the workers' comp angle. This is way more complicated than I thought it would be.

•And remember to document everything! You'll thank yourself later if any issues come up.
