One more thought - if you do get approved somewhere, try to borrow only what you absolutely need. The temptation is to take extra 'just in case' but that extra debt while unemployed can really add up.
been on unemployment twice and honestly the weekly claims become routine after a while. just set a reminder for the same day each week so you don't forget
The system is definitely not intuitive. I made mistakes on my first weekly claim and had to call to get it corrected. Another reason why having a way to actually reach ESD staff is crucial.
Yeah, that's the beauty of Claimyr - you can actually get help when you need it instead of being stuck with confusing online forms.
Just remember to keep filing your weekly claims every week. I forgot one week and it was a hassle to get it sorted out. Set a reminder in your phone or something.
One last thing - if you end up having issues with your claim or need to talk to someone at Washington ESD, definitely check out that Claimyr service people mentioned. The video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ shows exactly how it works. Way better than trying to call on your own.
I watched the video and it looks pretty straightforward. Definitely keeping that in my back pocket in case I run into any issues.
Wish I had known about Claimyr when I was dealing with Washington ESD last year. Would have saved me so much frustration!
Natural disasters can cause unemployment too - wildfires, floods, etc. Washington ESD has special provisions for disaster-related unemployment I think.
Bottom line - unemployment happens for tons of reasons and Washington ESD has seen it all. As long as you're honest about your situation and meet the basic requirements, you should be able to get benefits if you qualify.

For what it's worth, I tried calling Washington ESD about tax questions last month and actually got through using that Claimyr thing. Took about 15 minutes instead of the usual hours of busy signals. The agent was really helpful explaining how the withholding works.

•That's the third person who mentioned that service. Must actually work pretty well.

•I'm definitely going to try it if I need to call Washington ESD again. Getting through on your own is basically impossible.

Bottom line - if you had taxes withheld from your unemployment benefits, you'll probably get some of it back as a refund. If you didn't have taxes withheld, you'll probably owe some money when you file. Either way, you need to report all your UI benefits on your tax return.

•Glad this thread was helpful! Tax season with unemployment benefits can be stressful but it's really not that complicated once you understand the basics.
