Update on using that Claimyr service - finally got through to Washington ESD and they told me my adjudication should be resolved within the next week. Sometimes you just need to talk to an actual person to get real information instead of guessing what's happening.
Bottom line - lower unemployment rates shouldn't affect whether you get approved if you legitimately qualify. The adjudication process might seem more thorough, but that's probably just because they have more time to review cases properly rather than rushing through everything.
For what it's worth, I tried calling Washington ESD about tax questions last month and actually got through using that Claimyr thing. Took about 15 minutes instead of the usual hours of busy signals. The agent was really helpful explaining how the withholding works.
Bottom line - if you had taxes withheld from your unemployment benefits, you'll probably get some of it back as a refund. If you didn't have taxes withheld, you'll probably owe some money when you file. Either way, you need to report all your UI benefits on your tax return.
One more thing - if you've been receiving any other benefits like food stamps or housing assistance, bring documentation for those too. Sometimes there are interactions between different benefit programs that they need to know about.
The most important thing is to be honest and thorough. If you're missing something, explain why. The Washington ESD staff are usually pretty understanding if you're upfront about your situation.
Bottom line for anyone reading this: 26 weeks maximum for regular Washington unemployment, but many people qualify for less based on their work history. Check your monetary determination letter for your specific duration, and use your time wisely for job searching. The weeks go by faster than you think.
One more thing - if you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD to ask about your specific benefit duration, I had success with that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person to get clear answers about your claim.

Also don't forget that unemployment benefits are taxable income. You can have taxes taken out automatically or pay them later, but just be aware of that.

•Oh I didn't know that. I'll make sure to set that up when I file.

•Yeah it's an option during the application process. Saves you from having to pay a big tax bill later.
