The unemployment system exists to provide temporary income replacement for workers who lose jobs involuntarily. Washington ESD administers this program and has to verify eligibility to prevent fraud and ensure proper distribution of benefits.
Hang in there. I know it's frustrating but most people do get approved eventually. The system works, it's just slow. Make sure you're doing everything required on your end - weekly claims, job search log, responding to any requests for information.
Just want to echo what others have said - with 18 months of work history and an involuntary separation, you should definitely qualify. The system is designed to help people in exactly your situation.
One last thing - if you run into any issues or your claim gets denied for any reason, you have the right to appeal. Don't just give up if something goes wrong initially.
If you're really struggling financially while waiting, look into local food banks and emergency assistance programs. Most communities have resources to help during the gap period.
Bottom line: 2-3 weeks is normal for straightforward claims, longer if there are complications. Keep filing your weekly claims, do your job searches, and check your account regularly. You should hear something soon!

Don't forget you can also call your local WorkSource office if you can't reach the main Washington ESD line. They sometimes have more availability and can check on your claim status.

Bottom line - you'll get multiple notifications when approved: email, letter, and your online account will update. Hard to miss once it happens. Just gotta wait it out unfortunately.
