The identity verification process can be a pain too. Make sure you have all your documents ready - driver's license, social security card, employment records. Sometimes they require additional verification that can delay your claim.
Bottom line - unemployment insurance exists to help you when you lose your job through no fault of your own. It's not welfare, it's insurance you've paid into. Don't be embarrassed to use it if you need it, but follow all the rules and requirements.
Good luck! Remember to keep detailed records of everything and don't hesitate to ask questions if you get stuck. The system can be confusing but it's there to help you.
Exactly right. And if you do run into issues getting through to Washington ESD, remember that Claimyr service that was mentioned. Sometimes you need to talk to an actual person to get things sorted out.
One more thing to watch out for - make sure your direct deposit info is still current. I had to update mine because I switched banks during my waiting period and almost had my payment sent to a closed account.
Congrats again OP! Hope you get that payment soon and can finally relax a bit. This whole process is way more stressful than it should be.
And remember, if anyone else is still stuck waiting for adjudication and needs to reach Washington ESD, Claimyr really does work for getting through to agents. Sometimes that personal contact makes all the difference in getting things moving.
Just wanted to say thanks to whoever mentioned Claimyr earlier. Finally got through to Washington ESD and got my benefit calculation explained. Turns out they were using the right numbers after all.
Bottom line: Washington ESD takes your highest quarterly earnings from your base period, divides by 26, and that's your weekly benefit (subject to min/max limits). Simple once you know the formula!
Bottom line - be honest in your application, keep good records, and don't be afraid to seek help if you need it. The system is complicated but there are people who can guide you through it.
One more thing - if you end up needing to call Washington ESD and can't get through the regular way, I had success with Claimyr too. Worth having in your back pocket if you hit roadblocks. The video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ shows exactly how it works.

The good news is that Washington ESD has improved their online system a lot over the past few years. Filing your initial claim is much smoother now than it used to be. Just make sure you have all your employment history ready when you apply.

•I'll make sure to gather all my employment documents just in case. Better to be over-prepared.

One last thing - if you do get approved for benefits, remember that unemployment is taxable income. You can choose to have taxes withheld or pay them when you file your return. Just something to consider for planning purposes.

•Good point! I wouldn't have thought about the tax implications. Thanks for mentioning that.

•No problem! It's one of those things people forget about until tax season rolls around.
