If your layoff date keeps changing due to company decisions, file as soon as you know for certain when your last day will be. Don't keep waiting for final confirmation if you're already reasonably sure about the timing.
One more tip - if you file late in the evening, sometimes the system runs slow or has issues. I'd recommend filing during normal business hours if you want to avoid any technical problems with the Washington ESD website.
Just wanted to add that if you do get denied for any reason, you can appeal the decision. Don't just accept it if you think you should qualify.
bottom line - 8 months of full time work should definitely qualify you. I've seen people qualify with less
The whole process seems overwhelming at first but it's really not that bad once you get started. The Washington ESD website has pretty good instructions if you follow them step by step.
One last thing - keep all your documentation organized. Layoff notice, final paystub, any severance paperwork, etc. You probably won't need it but it's good to have just in case.
And remember if you need to talk to ESD directly, Claimyr is there to help get you connected without the hassle.
For anyone still struggling with getting through to Washington ESD, I'll throw in another vote for that Claimyr thing someone mentioned. Used it last month when my claim got stuck and I needed to talk to someone. Way better than the regular phone runaround.
Okay I'm convinced, I'm going to try Claimyr tomorrow. This thread has been more helpful than anything on the Washington ESD website.
The waiting week is just one of those things you have to deal with when filing for unemployment in Washington. It sucks but complaining about it won't change anything. Focus on your job search and meeting the requirements so you can get paid as soon as possible after the waiting period.

Keep your chin up and keep networking. Sometimes the best opportunities come from connections rather than online applications. Let everyone know you're looking.

•You're absolutely right. I need to be better about reaching out to my network.

Bottom line - no automatic extensions right now, but definitely worth talking to ESD about all your options. And start preparing financially for the possibility that benefits might end before you find work.

•Yeah, that's probably the most realistic approach. Thanks everyone for all the advice and perspective.
