Pro tip: even if you think you might have issues with your claim (like if you were fired vs laid off), file anyway. You can sort out the details later, but at least you'll have started the process. Don't let uncertainty stop you from filing.
The bottom line is: FILE NOW. I've seen too many people wait and regret it. There's literally no downside to filing immediately, but there are real downsides to waiting. Don't be one of those people who kicks themselves for missing out on benefits they were entitled to.
And remember, if you have trouble getting through to Washington ESD with questions, that Claimyr service people mentioned earlier really does work. Made my life so much easier when I needed to talk to someone about my claim status.
Bottom line: Washington employees pay $0 into unemployment insurance. It's 100% employer-funded through payroll taxes. But you still earn eligibility through your work history and wages.
Great discussion everyone. Just to wrap up - if you do end up needing to file for unemployment, don't hesitate because you think you haven't 'paid your dues.' The system is designed to support workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own, regardless of who pays the premiums.
just remember to keep looking for work while you're on benefits. they do check up on the job search requirements so don't slack off on that part

The bottom line is that performance-related terminations usually qualify for unemployment benefits in Washington. You should be fine as long as you file promptly and are honest about what happened.
