If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

IT WORKS!! Not a scam!

I tried for weeks to get thru to EDD PFL program with no luck. I gave this a try thinking it may be a scam. OMG! It worked and They got thru within an hour and my claim is going to finally get paid!! I upgraded to the $60 call. Best $60 spent!

I think the confusion comes from some of the federal programs during COVID that had different rules. Regular state unemployment benefits have always been available multiple times as long as you meet eligibility.

0 coins

That makes sense. There were so many different programs during that time.

0 coins

Yeah PUA and all those programs are gone now. Just regular UI benefits with the same rules as before.

Bottom line - no limit on how many times you can collect unemployment in Washington. Just need to meet the eligibility requirements each time. Your friend was definitely wrong about the lifetime limit thing.

Thanks everyone! This thread really put my mind at ease. I'll file my claim tomorrow.

Good luck with your claim! Hope it goes smoothly for you.

Last piece of advice - keep all your paperwork organized from day one. Washington ESD can request documentation at any time during your claim or even after it ends. Having everything organized makes life much easier if you need to provide proof of job searches, work history, or anything else.

Good point. I'll set up a folder for all the UI stuff. Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice!

You're welcome. Good luck with your claim and your job search. File that claim as soon as you can!

Just wanted to mention Claimyr one more time since you'll probably need to call Washington ESD at some point during your 26 weeks. Whether it's about your weekly claim, job search requirements, or just checking on your claim status, having a reliable way to reach an agent is invaluable. The regular phone lines are still pretty backed up most days.

I bookmarked their site. Hopefully I won't need it but good to have as backup.

I used them last month when my claim went into adjudication. Got through to someone same day instead of waiting weeks for a callback that never came.

ok this has been educational but im still confused about why unemployment rose so much in 1938 specifically. was it really just government spending cuts?

0 coins

makes sense. so if they hadnt cut spending, unemployment might not have risen?

0 coins

Most economists think the recession could have been avoided or at least been much milder without the premature fiscal tightening.

0 coins

Well this thread definitely answered the original question! The 1938 unemployment spike was caused by policy mistakes, and it helped shape how we think about unemployment insurance today. Pretty cool how Washington ESD's history connects to major economic events.

And hopefully some people got help with their current Washington ESD issues too. Remember that Claimyr service if you're having trouble getting through on the phone!

Definitely bookmarking that for future reference. Thanks again!

I've been tracking unemployment benefit rates across states for a research project and Washington consistently ranks in the top 3-5. The maximum weekly benefit amount of $999 puts it ahead of about 45 other states. But the duration is standard at 26 weeks like most places.

0 coins

Several states have proposed increases but it's slow going. Political resistance to raising unemployment benefits is pretty strong in most places.

0 coins

Meanwhile cost of living keeps going up but benefit amounts in most states stay the same for years. At least Washington adjusts theirs periodically.

The frustrating thing is that even with Washington having relatively high benefits, the process to get help when you have issues is still terrible. I needed to talk to someone about my job search requirements and it took using a service called Claimyr to actually reach a human at Washington ESD.

It's basically a callback service that handles the waiting and calling for you. Way better than sitting on hold for hours. Check out their demo video if you want to see how it works.

I'm definitely going to look into this. The phone situation with Washington ESD has been my biggest frustration.

Also remember that unemployment benefits are taxable income. You can choose to have taxes withheld or pay them when you file your return next year.

0 coins

Ugh, I didn't think about taxes. Should I have them withheld?

0 coins

Probably a good idea to have 10% withheld so you don't get hit with a big tax bill later.

Good thread. Lots of solid info here. The 26 week limit is firm unless there are special circumstances or extended benefits get triggered, which hasn't happened in Washington for a while now.

Thanks to everyone who contributed. I feel much more informed now about what to expect.
