USCIS nightmare: No applicant access code, changed lawyers, need to update address. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my adjustment of status application. We hired a lawyer to handle it, but they never gave us the letter with the online access code for the applicant (me). The code we have is for the representative. Now we've switched lawyers, and I need to change the address from their office to my home. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice on how to get my own access code and update my address?

Ugh, that sucks. I've been there before. You'll need to call USCIS and explain the situation. Be prepared to wait on hold for a looong time tho. Make sure you have your receipt number and all your info ready when you call.

•Yep, calling USCIS is like watching paint dry. Last time I called, I was on hold for 3 hours! 😫

•Pro tip: call right when they open. You might get lucky and only wait an hour lol

I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/eSz742AOvHc

•I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

•How long did it take for them to call you back?

•It took about 2 hours, but I was able to do other stuff instead of being stuck on hold. Worth it imo.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Call USCIS at 1-800-375-5283 2. Explain that you never received your applicant access code 3. Request a new code be sent to your current address 4. While you're at it, update your address in the system 5. Ask them to confirm all changes Be patient and polite. Sometimes you gotta call a few times to get someone helpful. Good luck!

Have you tried contacting your old lawyer? They might still have the access code letter. Worth a shot before dealing with USCIS directly.

•Good idea, but we already tried. They claim they never received it either. It's a whole mess 😩

•Oof, that's rough. Guess you're stuck with calling USCIS then. Hang in there!

Quick question - did you file a G-28 with your new lawyer? If not, make sure to do that ASAP. It'll allow them to access your case and help with these issues.

Have you considered reaching out to your local congressperson's office? They sometimes have liaisons who can help with USCIS issues. Might be worth a try if you keep hitting dead ends.
