USCIS Work Permit Approved - How to Ensure It's Sent to New Attorney, Not Old One?
Hey everyone, I need some advice. My work permit was just approved yesterday, but I'm worried about where they'll send it. I recently changed attorneys and I want to make sure it goes to the right place. How can I confirm they'll send it to my new attorney and not the old one? Has anyone dealt with this before?

Congrats on getting your permit approved! 🎉 I had a similar situation last year. Your best bet is to call USCIS asap and update your mailing address. They usually send important docs to the address on file.

•Good advice! Just make sure you have your receipt number ready when you call. They'll ask for it.

•Yeah, getting through can be a pain. I found a way tho! There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the menu, waits on hold, and then connects you when an agent picks up. Costs $20 but totally worth it imo. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/eSz742AOvHc

•$20 just to make a phone call? Sounds like a scam to me 🤔

•Nah, it's legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time. Way better than listening to that awful hold music all day 😂

OP, did you file an AR-11 form when you changed attorneys? Thats supposed to update your address of record with USCIS.

idk about permits, but when I got my green card they sent it to both my lawyer and me. Maybe they'll do the same for you?

•That would be ideal! I'm just worried because I've heard horror stories about important docs getting lost in the mail 😰

Here's what you need to do: 1. Call USCIS customer service ASAP (1-800-375-5283) 2. Have your receipt number ready 3. Explain the situation and ask them to update your attorney of record 4. Request that they make a note in your file about where to send the permit 5. Follow up with an email to the address listed on your approval notice 6. If possible, also fax a letter explaining the change (yes, they still use fax 🙄) I've been through this rodeo before. It's a pain, but if you're persistent, you can get it sorted out. Just don't wait - the sooner you act, the better chance you have of catching it before it's sent out.

•This is solid advice 💯 Especially the part about faxing. USCIS loves their faxes for some reason lol

Protip: If you cant get through on the phone, try contacting your local congressperson's office. They often have liaisons who can help with USCIS issues.

Another option if you can't get through by phone - try the USCIS online case inquiry system (e-Request). You can submit a request explaining that you need to update your attorney information and ensure your approved work permit is sent to the correct address. It takes longer than calling, but at least you'll have a paper trail of your request. Also, make sure your new attorney has filed a G-28 (Notice of Entry of Appearance) if they haven't already - that officially establishes them as your representative with USCIS.
