USCIS I-485/I-765 status check after attorney change - no interview notice yet. Help!
Hey everyone, I filed my I-485 and I-765 applications a couple months ago and I'm feeling a bit lost. I've got some questions about my case and I'm hoping someone here can help me out. First off, I switched attorneys recently. How can I make sure my old attorney has officially withdrawn and my new one is listed? I don't want any important stuff going to the wrong place. Also, my new lawyer mentioned that people are usually getting interview notices or waivers pretty quick these days - like within a month of filing. I haven't heard anything yet, so I'm wondering if: 1. There's an interview scheduled that I don't know about 2. The interview got waived 3. My case is just in regular processing Can anyone tell me how to check on the status of my applications? And if there are any decisions or appointments coming up that I should know about? Thanks in advance for any help!

I've been through this process before, so I might be able to help. First, for the attorney change, you should file a G-28 form with USCIS. This form notifies them of your new representation. As for checking your case status, have you tried using the USCIS online case status tool? You can enter your receipt number there and it should give you some basic info.

•Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely look into filing that G-28 form. And yeah, I've checked the online status tool, but it just says 'Case Was Received' since March. Not very helpful 😕

•The online tool is pretty useless tbh. It's always behind and never gives you the real scoop. You're better off calling them directly if you want actual answers.

•True, the online tool can be frustrating. If you decide to call, be prepared for a loooong wait time. Might wanna bring a book or something lol

ugh, USCIS is such a mess rn. I filed my stuff back in January and still haven't heard squat. It's like they're playing eeny meeny miny moe with our cases 🙄

•Tell me about it! I swear they just throw our applications in the air and wherever they land is the order they process them in 😂

•Y'all are being too harsh. The system is overloaded and they're doing their best. Patience is key in this process.

•@profile 5 easy for you to say! Some of us have been waiting for YEARS. It's not about patience anymore, it's about a broken system 😤

Hey OP, I actually found a way to get someone on the phone without the insane wait times. I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/eSz742AOvHc

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me from pulling my hair out on hold music lol

•20 bucks to skip the wait? Sign me up! USCIS hold times are the worst 😫

•Idk man, seems kinda sketchy. What if they're just taking your money and not actually doing anything?

•@profile 9 I get the concern, but I can vouch for it. They only charge you if they actually connect you to an agent. No connection = no charge. It's pretty fair imo

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before and I've got some tips for you: 1. Attorney change: File Form G-28 ASAP. This tells USCIS about your new lawyer. Follow up with a written request to update your address of record if needed. 2. Case status: The online tool is garbage, we all know it. Your best bet is to call the USCIS contact center. Be prepared for a long wait, or use one of those paid services that wait on hold for you. 3. Interview timing: Don't panic if you haven't heard anything in a month. Processing times vary WILDLY depending on your location and case type. Some people wait a year or more. 4. Checking for scheduled interviews: If there's an interview scheduled, you should receive a notice in the mail. If you're worried, you can also try asking Emma (the USCIS virtual assistant) on their website. Sometimes she can see info that isn't on the regular status page. 5. Interview waiver: They don't usually notify you if they waive the interview. You'll just get a decision. 6. Regular processing: This is most likely where you're at. It's a waiting game, unfortunately. Hang in there, and don't hesitate to reach out to your congress person if things are taking way too long. Sometimes they can help speed things up. Good luck!

Pro tip: If you're really worried, reach out to your local congress person's office. They can sometimes inquire about your case status and get more info than we can as individuals.
