When will my 2024 SS earnings show up on my SSA account? Still showing $0
I've been checking my Social Security earnings record on my SSA.gov account to make sure everything's accurate, but I noticed my 2024 earnings are showing up as $0 even though I've been working steadily all year. Is this normal? How long does it usually take for current year earnings to appear in the system? My 2023 earnings are there correctly, but nothing for 2024 yet. Should I be concerned or am I just being paranoid? I don't want to discover years later that my earnings weren't properly recorded.

This is completely normal! Your 2024 earnings won't show up on your Social Security earnings record until sometime in 2025 after your employer submits your W-2 information and it's processed by the IRS and then transmitted to SSA. There's always about a one-year delay before current earnings appear. As long as your 2023 earnings are showing correctly, you don't need to worry about 2024 yet.

•Thank you so much! That's a relief. I wasn't sure if it was supposed to update quarterly or annually. Good to know I don't need to worry yet.

The SSA website is SO FRUSTRATING with how it displays things!! It had me panicking too when I saw zeros for this year. They should at least put a note explaining the delay instead of making people think their earnings aren't being recorded. I spent HOURS trying to figure out if something was wrong with my account!!

I actually had this exact same worry last year! The Social Security Administration only updates your earnings record once a year, after tax season when all the W-2s and tax returns are processed. Your 2024 earnings won't appear until sometime around September 2025. If you ever need to verify that SSA has the correct info or need to resolve issues with your earnings record, trying to reach them by phone can be a nightmare with the long wait times. I recently discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me get through to a live agent without the endless waiting. Their service lets you skip the hold time when you need to call SSA. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Z-BRbJw3puU. Saved me hours of frustration when I needed to fix an earnings discrepancy from a few years back.

Your current year earnings won't show up until after your employer submits W-2 forms and the IRS processes all tax returns. For 2024 earnings, they typically appear on your Social Security statement around September 2025. This is standard procedure. However, it's still good practice to check your earnings record annually to ensure previous years are accurate. If you find discrepancies in past years, you should report them to SSA, as your future benefit amount is calculated based on your highest 35 years of indexed earnings. Missing earnings could potentially lower your retirement benefits.

•My brother in law had missing earnings from 2018 and didn't notice until this year. What a headache to fix! They made him find old pay stubs and everything. Check that record every year people!!!

I work for a payroll company and can confirm this is normal. Employers file W-2s in January, IRS processes them and sends data to SSA, and SSA updates records typically in late summer or fall of the following year. Nothing to worry about!

•Then they should TELL PEOPLE THAT on the website instead of just showing zeros! Some of us worry about this stuff. It would take them 2 seconds to add a little explanation note on that page.

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses! I feel much better knowing this is normal procedure. I'll check back in fall 2025 to make sure my 2024 earnings show up correctly. I appreciate all the information!

•You're welcome! It's always good to stay on top of your earnings record. Just remember to check it once a year to make sure everything looks right.

I had the same panic last year! It's such a relief to read all these responses confirming it's normal. The SSA website really should include a disclaimer about the delay - would save so many people unnecessary stress. I've been working two jobs this year and was worried one of my employers wasn't reporting correctly. Now I know to just be patient and check back next fall. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

As someone who just joined this community, I want to thank everyone for this helpful discussion! I was literally about to call SSA tomorrow morning because I had the same concern about my 2024 earnings showing as $0. Reading through all these responses has saved me from what would have been a very long phone call. It's reassuring to know this is completely normal and that I just need to wait until fall 2025 for my current year earnings to appear. I'll definitely make it a habit to check my earnings record annually going forward to catch any issues early.

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm new to checking my SSA earnings record and was genuinely worried when I saw zeros for 2024. It's such a common concern that I'm surprised SSA doesn't address it more clearly on their website. Based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like the September-October timeframe is when most people see their previous year's earnings finally appear. I'll definitely bookmark this thread and check back next fall. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it's really reassuring to know this is completely normal!

•Welcome to the community and I'm so glad this thread helped you too! It really does seem like this is one of those universal worries that catches everyone off guard the first time they check their earnings record. I was the same way - saw those zeros and immediately thought something had gone wrong with my payroll deductions. The fact that so many of us have had this exact same panic really shows how much clearer the SSA website could be about explaining the delay. At least now we all know what to expect and can help other newcomers who have the same concern!

Reading through everyone's experiences here has been such a lifesaver - it's clear this is completely normal and I just need to be patient until next fall. I was convinced my employer had messed up my withholdings or that there was some glitch in the system. It's honestly such a relief to find this thread and realize how universal this concern is. The fact that so many of us have gone through this exact same panic really highlights how much the SSA website needs better explanations. As someone who just discovered this community while frantically searching for answers about my SSA account, this thread has been absolutely invaluable! I just checked my earnings record for the first time in years and panicked when I saw $0 for 2024 - I was convinced there was some catastrophic error with my payroll or that I hadn't been paying into Social Security properly. I was already drafting an email to HR and preparing for what I imagined would be hours on hold with SSA. Reading through all of your experiences has been such a relief and really shows how common this concern is. It's honestly ridiculous that the SSA website doesn't include even a simple note explaining the delay - it would prevent so much unnecessary stress for people checking their records. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experiences. I'll definitely make this an annual check going forward and will know to expect the delay. This community seems like such a great resource for navigating these government systems!

New member here! I just found this thread after having the exact same panic attack when I logged into my SSA account this afternoon. Seeing those zeros for 2024 had me convinced something had gone terribly wrong with my payroll or that I somehow hadn't been contributing to Social Security all year. I was already planning to spend my entire weekend calling SSA and grilling my HR department! Reading through all these responses has been such a relief - it's clear this is a super common experience that catches everyone off guard. The consistency of the September/October timeline that everyone mentions is really helpful to know. Thank you all for sharing your experiences - this community seems like an incredible resource for navigating these confusing government systems. I'll definitely be checking back next fall and will spread the word to friends who might have the same concern.
