SSA billing me for Medicare 3 months early - How to fix start date?
Hey everyone, I'm having a problem with Medicare billing. My coverage was supposed to start on January 1st, but I'm being billed since October. I've tried contacting SSA to change the start date in their records, but no luck so far. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of issue? Any advice on how to get it sorted out?

Ugh, dealing with SSA can be such a pain! I had a similar issue last year. Have you tried going to your local SSA office in person? Sometimes face-to-face works better than phone calls.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I haven't tried that yet. Did you have any luck when you went in person?

•Yeah, it definitely helped. Bring all your paperwork and be prepared to wait, but at least you can talk to someone directly. Good luck!

•I second this advice. In-person is the way to go with SSA. Phone calls can be hit or miss.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

•Sounds interesting. How long did you have to wait before getting connected?

•It took about an hour, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They called me when an agent was on the line.

•Idk man, paying to get through seems sketchy. Is it even legal?

•Totally get the skepticism, but it's legit. They're just automating the hold process. Saved me hours of frustration tbh.

Have you checked your Medicare.gov account? Sometimes the info there is more up-to-date than what you get in the mail. Might be worth a look.

This happened to my mom last year. Turns out there was a mixup with her Social Security benefits start date. Double-check that all your SS info is correct too, as it can affect your Medicare enrollment.

The whole system is so broken 🤦♂️ Why cant they just get it right the first time? We shouldnt have to jump through hoops to fix THEIR mistakes.

Here's what you need to do to resolve this issue: 1. Gather all your documentation: Medicare card, SSA correspondence, any bills you've received. 2. Call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213. Be prepared for a long wait. 3. If the phone doesn't work, visit your local SSA office. Find it here: https://secure.ssa.gov/ICON/main.jsp 4. Explain clearly that there's an error in your Medicare start date. 5. Request a 'Medicare Enrollment Period Correction'. 6. If they resist, ask to speak with a supervisor. 7. Keep detailed notes of all conversations, including names and dates. 8. Follow up with a written request via certified mail. 9. If all else fails, contact your local congressional representative's office. They often have liaisons who can help with federal issues. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up until it's resolved. Good luck!

Just went thru this last month. It's a nightmare but keep pushing. Took me 3 calls and 2 office visits but finally got it straightened out. Hang in there!
