TWC claim question: Refusing job offer due to health limitations - how to report?

Just got a job offer yesterday after being on unemployment for about 2 months, but I'm worried about how to handle this on my TWC claim. The job involves heavy lifting and standing for 10+ hours which my doctor has advised against due to my back issues (have documentation from my recent surgery). I literally cannot physically do these tasks without risking serious injury. When I do my next payment request, do I need to report this job offer even if I declined it? If I say I refused work, will TWC automatically disqualify me? Anyone know the right way to handle health-related job refusals on the payment request form? Really stressed about losing my benefits since I'm still actively looking for suitable work that won't damage my health.

Yes, you MUST report the job offer on your payment request even if you declined it. TWC asks specifically if you refused any work. But don't panic! Having documented medical restrictions is one of the valid reasons to refuse work. Make sure to have your doctor's note ready because TWC might request it. When you do your payment request, select 'Yes' that you refused work, then you'll get a questionnaire asking for details. Explain your medical limitations clearly and that you're still looking for suitable work within your restrictions.

Thank you so much. Will I get my payment delayed while they review this? I'm really worried about rent next month if they put my claim on hold.

BE CAREFUL!!! The system can automatically flag your claim for review when you mark that you refused work! I had a similar situation last year with my chronic condition and ended up with my payments on hold for 6 weeks while they sorted everything out!!! Make sure you upload all your medical documentation to your TWC account before submitting the payment request if possible.

Having gone through this exact situation, I can tell you that you absolutely need to report the job refusal, but you should be protected under suitable work guidelines. TWC policy states that work isn't considered suitable if it would risk your health or safety based on your physical condition. When you file your payment request: 1. Answer YES to refusing work 2. Complete the work refusal questionnaire thoroughly 3. Be specific about your medical limitations 4. Continue doing your required 3 work search activities each week They will likely put your claim under review, but if you have proper medical documentation, you should be approved to continue receiving benefits. Just make sure you're actively applying to jobs you CAN physically handle.

This is really helpful. Do you know what specific documentation I need from my doctor? Just a general note, or should it list specific restrictions?

hate to be that person but TWC is probably gonna hassle you no matter what... the whole system is designed to cut people off benefits whenever possible. i had to refuse a job because of my chronic pain and TWC made me jump through 50 hoops to keep my benefits. be prepared to fight for it.

While the system can be frustrating, I think this is exactly why it's important to be thorough and accurate. Document everything. If you have a legitimate medical reason with documentation, TWC should ultimately make the right determination, even if there's an initial review period.

You should also call TWC directly to explain your situation before doing your payment request. That way they can note your account ahead of time. I had to do this last year when I had a similar situation with my knee injury and it helped so much to have a person document everything in advance. The trick is actually getting through to TWC...

Lol "the trick is getting through" is right! I spent 3 DAYS trying to get through to TWC last month. Their phone system is a joke.

If you're having trouble getting through to TWC on the phone, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It's a service that holds your place in line and calls you back when a TWC agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration when I had a similar issue with my claim. You can see how it works at claimyr.com or check out their demo at https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh. It was honestly a lifesaver when I needed to explain my medical situation to TWC.

TWC has a specific designation for this situation called "medical job refusal" that should protect your benefits. Here's what you need to do: 1. Report the job refusal accurately on your payment request 2. Get a doctor's letter that clearly states: - Your specific physical limitations - What workplace activities you cannot perform - The duration of these restrictions 3. Upload this documentation to your TWC account 4. Continue performing and documenting your work search activities for jobs you CAN perform While your claim may go under review, having proper medical documentation should prevent disqualification. Just be prepared for a possible delay in payments while they review your case.

Off topic but whatever happend to that TWC online chat feature they were supposed to roll out? Would be so much easier than these phone calls that never go through. Every time I check the website it still says "coming soon" but it's been that way for ages. Anyone actually seen it working?

Let's try to keep focused on helping OP with their specific situation about reporting a job refusal. The chat feature is still in testing and only available for certain claim types right now.

Just checking in - were you able to submit your payment request and explain the job refusal situation? Hope it went smoothly.

Yes! I submitted yesterday and explained everything. My account now shows "under review" but at least I was able to explain the medical reasons thoroughly. Got a much better doctor's note with specific restrictions listed. Fingers crossed it processes without issues. Thanks everyone for the advice!
