TWC RESEA orientation during severe weather - can I reschedule without penalty?

Just got a letter from TWC saying I have to attend some mandatory RESEA orientation workshop that's 3 hours long. With all the flooding and power outages in my area this week, I tried calling the number on the letter to reschedule but can't get through to anyone. Today there are flash flood warnings and I literally can't make it safely to the workforce center! Will my benefits get cut off if I miss this? The letter makes it sound super serious but they're not even answering their phones. Anyone dealt with rescheduling a RESEA meeting during bad weather? Do they actually care about legitimate reasons or am I just screwed?

they dont care at all lol. missed mine last month and they cut me off for 4 weeks before I could fix it. if u can get there somehow u should probably go

Seriously?? 4 weeks with no benefits? That's insane when there's literally flood warnings. I can't risk my life for a stupid meeting.

RESEA stands for Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment. It's mandatory for people randomly selected by TWC to verify you're actively seeking work. Missing it without rescheduling beforehand can result in benefit suspension until you complete it. For severe weather, they SHOULD have a process to reschedule. Try these steps: 1. Document the weather conditions (screenshots of weather alerts) 2. Email your workforce center directly (find on workintexas.com) 3. Keep calling the number on your letter 4. If you miss it, immediately contact them explaining the situation with your documentation I had to reschedule mine once and they were reasonable when I provided documentation of why I couldn't attend.

Thank you so much! I've been trying that main number for days. I'll look up my workforce center email right now. I've been taking screenshots of the alerts just in case.

i missed mine and they cut me off 2 but when i went in person and explained it was bcuz my car broke down they fixed it and let me do the workshop the next week. probly better chance if u call b4hand tho

This is accurate. TWC is much more likely to be understanding if you attempt to contact them before missing the appointment rather than after. Documentation of your attempts to contact them is crucial.

THE ENTIRE TWC SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU FAIL!! They schedule these mandatory meetings during weather emergencies, don't answer phones, then cut your benefits when you can't make it! I had a similar situation last year during the ice storm and they suspended my benefits for 3 weeks even though the WORKFORCE CENTER ITSELF WAS CLOSED that day!! Had to file an appeal and everything. The whole RESEA program is just their way of finding excuses to deny benefits. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING and be prepared to fight.

That's what I'm worried about! Even if their own office is closed they'll still penalize us? That's completely unfair.

If you can't get through on the phone number, try using Claimyr. I was in a similar situation with my RESEA orientation and couldn't reach anyone for days. Claimyr got me connected to a TWC agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for a week on my own. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh. The website is claimyr.com. Totally worth it since missing RESEA can mess up your benefits for weeks.

I've never heard of this. Does it actually work? I'm desperate at this point because my orientation is tomorrow and the flooding is getting worse.

Yes, it worked for me. I was skeptical too but I was in a similar time crunch with my RESEA appointment. Got through to TWC and they noted in my file that I called to reschedule due to an emergency. Saved me from losing benefits.

I work at a career center (not TWC but we partner with them). Here's what you need to know about RESEA: 1. It is definitely mandatory and missing it can suspend your benefits 2. HOWEVER, TWC does have procedures for emergency rescheduling 3. For severe weather, take screenshots of official weather alerts, flood warnings, etc. 4. Call your specific Workforce Solutions office directly, not just the number on the letter 5. If you can't reach anyone, document all your call attempts (times, dates, screenshots) 6. Email the workforce center AND bring all documentation when you can safely attend In my experience, TWC will usually reinstate benefits without penalty if you have legitimate safety concerns with proper documentation. The key is proving you actively tried to contact them before the appointment.

Thank you, this is super helpful! I found the direct number for my Workforce Solutions office and I'm going to keep trying that one too. I've been documenting everything just in case.

whatever u do dont just not show up. my cousin did that and they made him start his whole claim over again!! total nightmare

Omg that sounds terrible! I definitely don't want to start over. I'm going to keep trying to reach someone.

I just went through this exact situation last month! Here's what worked for me: 1. I couldn't attend my RESEA due to a family emergency 2. Called the number on the letter 15+ times with no answer 3. Went to the TWC website and found my assigned workforce center's direct email 4. Sent an email explaining my situation with detailed documentation 5. Still got a temporary suspension notice a week later 6. Finally got through to TWC using the Tele-Serv number (not the one on the RESEA letter) 7. Explained everything, they reinstated my benefits and rescheduled The key was having documentation of both the emergency AND my attempts to contact them beforehand. Take screenshots of weather alerts, flood warnings, and document every call attempt with timestamps. Even if you miss it, with proper documentation they should restore your benefits retroactively.

This is exactly what I needed to know! I didn't realize the Tele-Serv number might work better than the one on the letter. I'll try that today too. Thank you!

hey did u figure this out? my RESEA is next week and now im worried about missing it

Update: I FINALLY got through! I took everyone's advice and: 1) Documented all weather alerts 2) Called both numbers multiple times 3) Emailed my workforce center with screenshots of the flood warnings. They just called me back and rescheduled for next week with no penalty! They said as long as you make a good faith effort to contact them before the appointment with a legitimate reason, they'll work with you. What a relief!

@Ethan Anderson That s'awesome! So glad you got it sorted out. Definitely saving this thread for reference in case I run into issues with mine. The documentation tip seems to be key - I ll'make sure to screenshot everything if bad weather hits next week.

@Ethan Anderson So glad you got it resolved! This whole thread is super helpful. I m'dealing with something similar - my RESEA is scheduled for Thursday but there s'a winter storm warning. I m'going to follow your exact steps: document everything, call both numbers, and email with screenshots. Thanks for updating us with what actually worked!

@Ethan Anderson That s'such a relief! Your situation sounds exactly like what I m'dealing with. I m'saving your step-by-step approach - the documentation part especially seems crucial. It s'good to know TWC actually can be reasonable when you follow the right process. Thanks for taking the time to update everyone!

This thread is so helpful! I'm dealing with RESEA for the first time and had no idea what it even was until reading this. For anyone else who might be confused - RESEA is basically a mandatory check-in where they verify you're actually looking for work. Missing it can definitely mess up your benefits but it sounds like TWC will work with you if you have legitimate reasons and proper documentation. The key takeaways I'm getting are: 1) Always try to contact them BEFORE missing the appointment, 2) Document everything (weather alerts, call attempts, emails), 3) Try multiple contact methods (the letter number, workforce center direct line, Tele-Serv, email), and 4) Don't just no-show because that makes everything worse. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this is way more useful than anything on the TWC website!

Exactly! This whole thread has been a lifesaver. I'm bookmarking it because the TWC website is pretty useless when it comes to explaining what happens during emergencies. It's crazy that so many people have to learn this stuff the hard way. The documentation tip seems to be the most important thing - I never would have thought to screenshot weather alerts before reading this. Really appreciate everyone sharing their real experiences instead of just the official policy stuff that doesn't help when you're actually stuck in a crisis.

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now and this thread has been incredibly helpful! My RESEA appointment is scheduled for Friday but we have a winter storm warning with ice expected. After reading everyone's experiences, I'm going to start documenting everything today - taking screenshots of the weather alerts and keeping a log of all my contact attempts. It's frustrating that TWC makes this process so difficult, but it sounds like they will work with you if you follow the right steps and have proper documentation. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences, especially @Ethan Anderson for the detailed update on what actually worked! This is way more useful information than anything I could find on the official TWC website.
