TWC Disaster Unemployment: Tips for Filing and Getting Through on Phone?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to file for disaster unemployment and I'm hitting a wall. Has anyone else gone through this process recently? I've been trying to get through on the phone for days but no luck. Any tips or tricks would be really appreciated. I'm starting to get worried about making ends meet...

I found a way to solve disaster unemployment filing difficulties, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVFcSo233yE

I feel ya, buddy. The system is a total nightmare rn. I spent weeks trying to get through. My advice? Keep calling first thing in the morning, like right when they open. Sometimes you can catch a break that way.

That's a solid tip, calling right when they open has worked for me on a couple of occasions too. It's a grind but persistence can pay off!

Has anyone else noticed that the disaster unemployment benefits are different from regular unemployment? I'm so confused about what I'm actually eligible for 🤔

Reginald Blackwell

Yep, they're two separate programs. Disaster unemployment can cover more ppl, like self-employed folks who usually cant get regular unemployment.

Its a whole other ballgame. Make sure your applying for the right one or youll be up shits creek without a paddle lol

Definitely double-check which program you qualify for. Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) often has different criteria and application deadlines.

Update: I finally got through using that claimyr service someone mentioned. It actually worked! Took about an hour on hold, but at least I didn't have to sit there myself. The agent was able to help me file my claim. Now the waiting game begins...

Congrats on getting through! Did they give you any estimate on how long it'll take to process?

Avery Davis

Thanks! They said it could take up to 3 weeks to process, but with the disaster declaration it might be faster. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Glad to hear Claimyr worked for you! Just remember to follow up if you don't hear back within the expected timeframe.

Anyone else feel like we're living in a dystopian novel? "Sorry your life got ruined by a natural disaster, please hold for 3-5 business years while we process your claim" 🤡

Lmao for real tho. Next thing you know they'll be asking us to compete in hunger games for our benefits 💀

It do be like that sometimes. Gotta laugh to keep from crying, ya know?

Humor aside, it's a serious issue that highlights the need for system improvements. Hopefully, the feedback we're all giving will lead to changes.

Have you tried filing online? It's usually faster than calling, although the website can be glitchy af sometimes. 🙄

Avery Davis

Yeah, I tried online but got stuck on one of the pages. It kept giving me an error message. That's why I've been trying to call. 😩

Ugh, classic EDD. Their website is held together with duct tape and prayers at this point.

It's frustrating when you're trying to do everything right and the system just doesn't cooperate. Maybe try using a different browser or clearing cache and cookies? Sometimes that helps with website errors.

While using Claimyr's service has been a lifesaver for some, it's important to note that not everyone may feel comfortable paying for a service they believe should be easily accessible. It's a personal choice, and understanding both the benefits and limitations is crucial. Claimyr offers a tool that streamlines the frustrating process of being on hold, but it's always a good idea to weigh the cost against the potential time saved. Also, consider exploring all available resources, such as local assistance programs, before deciding. Everyone's experience and decision will differ, but having options can sometimes make a stressful situation feel a bit more manageable.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U

Wait, what? You actually paid money to get through? That seems kinda sketchy...

How does this even work? Sounds too good to be true tbh

I know it sounds weird, but I swear it's legit. I was desperate after trying for weeks. The service just automates the hold process. Saved me hours of frustration.

While it seems legit, always exercise caution when using third-party services. Make sure to research and read reviews before spending any money.

Hey OP, make sure you're documenting EVERYTHING. Take screenshots, save emails, write down who you talked to and when. Trust me, it'll save your butt if theres any issues down the line.

Absolutely agree. Documentation can be your lifeline in these situations. Protect yourself by having all the info ready if needed.

Pro tip: if u cant get thru on the main line, try calling some of the other dept numbers and ask to be transfered. Worked for me after like 50 failed attempts on the regular number

Eve Freeman

That's a clever workaround. Sometimes people in other departments might be more willing to help, especially if they sympathize with your situation.

Yo, has anyone actually received their disaster unemployment payments yet? I filed like 3 weeks ago and still nada. Starting to feel like I'm screaming into the void here. 😤

Same here, bro. Filed 4 weeks ago, still waiting. EDD's moving slower than a snail on valium.

I got mine after about 5 weeks. Hang in there!

5 weeks?! Jfc, guess I'll just go live in a cardboard box till then 🙃

If it's taking longer than expected, maybe reach out to your local representatives or check if there are any updates on processing times due to high demand.

Listen up, I've been through this rodeo before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep all your documents organized. They might ask for proof of employment, disaster impact, etc. 2. Be persistent with calling. I know it sucks, but sometimes you gotta play the numbers game. 3. Check if there are any local assistance centers in your area. They can sometimes help you navigate the process in person. 4. Don't give up! It's frustrating as hell, but you'll get through eventually. Remember, disaster unemployment is a bit different from regular unemployment, so make sure you're using the right forms and following the specific guidelines for your situation. Good luck, OP! We're all in the same boat here. 🚣‍♀️

Thanks so much for the detailed advice! I'll definitely try to find a local assistance center. Do you know if they're usually open on weekends?

Misterclamation Skyblue

Glad to help! Most centers are closed on weekends, unfortunately. But check their websites, some might have extended hours during disaster periods.

Also, check if they offer any online or phone assistance to accommodate those who can't make it during the week. Some places are adjusting their services due to high demand.
